Here are players gone from last season's squad, whether sold, loaned, returned to club, retired etc.
Mateus Fernandes
Crysencio Summerville
Freddie Potts
Callum Marshall
George Earthy
Krisztian Hegyi
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Mason Terry
Niclas Fullkrug
Lukasz Fabianski
Adama Traore
Axel Disasi:
Possible still to go
Mougassa
Diouf
Tobido
14 players from what was already an old, small squad.
How many players have come in so far?
22 Aug 2026 09:33:01
And, no, I'm not being negative. Just pointing out, we have a small squad now, and it's a long, hard season.
22 Aug 2026 09:59:41
Yes, we are very thin on the ground. The money issues must be worse than we originally thought.
22 Aug 2026 10:01:57
The 1st team is more than good enough to get promoted (take JWP and Kilman out of that). We lack a bit of squad depth, and injuries will play a part, but that goes for everyone. Cash was always going to be a problem; we had to sell before we could buy last year, and relegation was going to compound the issue. My biggest concern is the manager, who does not know how to see out a game.
We dropped 2 points last weekend at one of the tougher places to go away because of him.
I watched a few games last weekend, and there is nothing to be scared of from any other team from what I saw.
Players come, players go, but Earthy, Hegyi, Marshall, Alvarez, Terry and Fulkrug were not part of the 1st team squad last year, and Fabianski didn't play either.
22 Aug 2026 11:12:12
Earthy and Potts hurt the most after the obvious two.
22 Aug 2026 11:59:40
Mac, you forgot Wilson.
22 Aug 2026 12:41:42
I agree, Robbo. I don't think the players we have are bad, with the JWP and Kilman exceptions. The players bought in seem decent, and we lack depth. But I just can't see our manager changing his ridiculous tactics. If he does, I think we will be fine and should be able to get promoted, but I won't hold my breath.
22 Aug 2026 08:08:00
There's a lot of chat on here about who we should be bringing in. It would be interesting to know how much is currently in the transfer pot. Bearing in mind we have brought in serious money with sales, but also the fact that the club has massive debts, what's left for Koppen/Nuno to spend in the rest of this window?
22 Aug 2026 08:47:43
I think that's a question we are all asking.
I don't understand what's going on. Our aim has to be promotion, but with this squad it's not gonna happen.
22 Aug 2026 09:09:39
West Ham do not have a transfer pot as such, cash reserves are in the bank, the vast majority of deals are deposited; in the main, only small transfers are paid in full.
On that basis, there's no transfer you can't do. It's all the stuff that goes with it that can be off-putting.
22 Aug 2026 08:03:31
If, as reported, Reading paid £600k for Earthy, that'll be the best £600k they ever invested.
21 Aug 2026 22:14:34
Coventry looked c#ap, and they won the championship, massive gap between the laegues, and can’t see them staying up.
22 Aug 2026 00:16:59
On that basis, we only just got relegated. Why do you keep on insisting we aren't good enough to get promoted, Joyful?
22 Aug 2026 08:52:53
Because I don't think there's enough gap between us and at least another 6/8 clubs. For West Ham, it's a journey; for the rest of the teams, they already know the league.
West Ham have no experience of the conveyor-belt style fixtures the rest do.
For this, you need to have plenty of players ready to jump in. Do we have that? We are still short, in my opinion, and in a few weeks we will find out.
22 Aug 2026 08:53:50
I don't think it's that we are not good enough, but with the Premier League squad we had, we were poor.
Now relegated, we are losing these Premier League quality players left, right and centre, and not finding enough or suitable replacements.
How many players have been sold, let go, or sent out on loan since we got relegated, and how many have been brought in?
We can, in all honesty, see where we need players, and, yep, still time left, but everything is so slow.
That's just my thoughts, Dabber, so please don't shoot the messenger.
21 Aug 2026 21:16:08
How Naive is Nuno?
He's just said "the club bought £22m record Championship signing Arne Engels to eventually play in the Premier League"!!
21 Aug 2026 21:54:33
He will take him off if we go 1 up, and bring on a defender.
21 Aug 2026 22:20:24
We haven't got any left. 🤣
21 Aug 2026 22:25:53
Nuno has got 5 more games. If we're not at the sharp end of the league by then, he could be gone. If you want to get promoted automatically, then you can't lose too many games.
22 Aug 2026 07:59:53
I think the issue has been whether we invest in players to get us promoted immediately (Championship level) or look to the future and try to buy PL quality players. Nuno believes Engels is PL quality. We'll see.
My view is that the only priority is promotion this season.
If we're bringing in players good enough for that, that's fine by me, whether that's permanent, or on loan. I'd love the club to have the problem of resorting the squad next season if we get back up.
21 Aug 2026 21:13:43
Arsenal 2-0 up at half time, bet you Arteta parks the bus second half.
Are you watching and taking notes... Nuno!
21 Aug 2026 17:38:05
Next week it’s very likely we will say goodbye to Alvarez and Magassa, it looks like Diouf is staying.
This is full WH squad, I’m ignoring a couple of youngsters like Ajala because there not playing unless emergency.
Bowen, Taty.
Soloman. Piroe Veltman Orford Kilman Mavro. Golambekis, JWP Pablo, Wp Diouf Scarles, Areola Mukassa, Engels Kante, Hermansen Mayers Lamadrrid Soucek.
22 people Not inc. Cornet who still looking for exit.
Have I missed anybody?
21 Aug 2026 19:33:25
West Ham Lite?
21 Aug 2026 20:24:27
Still plenty of time left to get 3 or 4 more in.
21 Aug 2026 17:11:25
Clearly Mukasa has been brought in to replace Magassa. No formal bid as yet, but he’s going to be gone next week, WH are letting too many players go. This won’t work out well.
WH have formulated a good starting 11, with a few replacements, but not enough. It’s just not possible to do what they are planning, too many games.
Any neglect will be punished.
21 Aug 2026 17:59:01
I've seen other sites that say Mukasa is very good and plays as a number 10. Magassa is a defensive midfielder.
21 Aug 2026 18:01:27
I would have said a replacement for Earthy, not that he was likely to have got much of a chance. Let's hope Nuno gives the kid a proper try.
21 Aug 2026 18:10:46
I understand that Mukasa plays through the middle, anywhere, so we differ on opinion, no doubt he has been brought in to fill in all over.
21 Aug 2026 16:27:37
Just to demonstrate, to some people who may not have had a good look at the fixture list.
The Championship play 46 games in 37 weeks.
Premier play 38 games in 40 weeks.
So you can see the compression.
21 Aug 2026 16:36:49
That's without a cup run or two. We need at least 4 more in before the window shuts. Maybe a couple of freebies when it's shut as well.
21 Aug 2026 17:01:45
Whilst I know Nuno's experience in this league, I just don’t think that WH are taking it seriously enough. They are misjudging the competition, not taking into account injuries, cards, and tiredness.
That’s my gut feeling. The first few weeks are slow pace, then the conveyor belt of fixtures starts. I do not see what WH are confident about; I think it’s going to be real tight.
History of the Championship tells a story: how many points are needed, how many goals need scoring, how many games you can afford to lose, not many, and how good the defence needs to be.
Defence is an obvious weak spot. Another 10 minutes at Burnley and we would have lost.
This is not an individual-brilliance league like the Premier; it’s a pressure league. I don’t see that WH are there yet.
21 Aug 2026 17:33:13
If Magassa goes to Palace which is now on the cards...
21 Aug 2026 18:05:10
My worry with Nuno is that, after the opener against Burnley, and the obvious park-the-bus after going in the lead, all other teams in the league will have seen that, and seen how we can't defend. If they commit a lot of players to attack, there is a good chance we may crumble.
21 Aug 2026 18:11:37
Correct t observation, mate.
21 Aug 2026 15:21:20
So how true is this Emmanuel Hernandez story I've seen that we are set to make an offer. I have to admit this is one guy I don't know much about. We need CB so maybe this is good because it's another body that we could use.
21 Aug 2026 16:24:48
Looks alright. WH can do better, they are making odd choices.
21 Aug 2026 16:35:31
Average big lump, but better than Lilman (not hard that though).
21 Aug 2026 21:43:13
Should have sold Kilman.
21 Aug 2026 12:49:41
It’s patently obvious to all, that WH need an experienced left footed CB
Nuno knows a man, Portuguese international, good player and a free agent. What more can you want?
Name Diogo Leite, tbh either WH don’t know about it or they are bypassing it
He’s decent quality, easy fit, cost nothing on paper.
21 Aug 2026 10:55:39
Lovely leaving message from George Earthy on the WHUFC.com website.
