Hi guys and Ed's, hope you're all well, there's been rumours of Real Madrid striker Diaz joining in January possibly on loan, I can't say I know a lot about him, any thoughts guys?

Stevie66

{Ed002's Note - It is true that Real Madrid have the representatives of Mariano Diaz offering him around on ideally a loan to buy option as they continue to clear the decks ready for a summer spending spree. Dias is an out and out striker who had a very good season at Lyon three years ago but is simply not good enough for Real Madrid where the goals return has been well below average. He has rejected loans to several clubs already inclding West Brom and Brighton - West Ham may offer solution but commiting to an obligation to buy may not be wise.}

1.) 18 Nov 2020 10:38:54
Thanks for the info Ed, 👍.

2.) 18 Nov 2020 16:47:18
Great info 002.

Anything on other strikers being linked such as Dembele, Jovic and Giroud?

{Ed002's Note - Moussa Dembele (S) has not reacted well to being on the bench for a few games and with Tino Kadewere proving his worth Lyon are open to selling. There has been a discussion with a couple of sides already but neither could offer him a starting role. David Moyes is a known fan of the player and might well see him as an option at the right price. Luca Jovic (S) was being offered to Napoli as part of the deal for Ruiz but had a broken heel to recover from first and then Real Madrid stopped looking to major signings this past summer having "delayed" four signings to next summer. Roma (having lost out on their two preferred choices), Inter and Milan will likely fight it out and offer Real Madrid some complicated deal invloving an initial loan. Benfica were interested but opted for Luca Waldschmidt. Milan will want a loan to buy from January - but will want an option rather than an obligation to buy. I don't see West Ham in the loop right now. Olivier Giroud (S) out of contract in the summer and likely available in January. West Ham would offer a good solution as he can stay in London. Crystal Palace offered the same solution but there is no interest. Napoli and Inter have both raised the subject with Chelsea. Lyon and Bordeaux have likely moved on from their prior interest. There was a discussion with Rennes but that will only come in to play if M'Baye Niang were to leave. The lady from Marseille knows him well and may offer a solution but they really want a younger player.}

3.) 19 Nov 2020 03:29:41
Oliver Giroud would be a godd back up for Antonio and with our young players coming through i don't see the reason to spend a large amount of money on untried premiership players, learn from our previous mistakes leave them alone and buy what you know that can play in the premiership. Giroud is getting on but he can still do a good job as a back up centre forward and can hold the ball up which is a must for our game. If we can get this season over with good times i hope will come with the crop of youngsters we have coming through.
What do you think lads?

4.) 19 Nov 2020 07:32:26
I have always rated Giroud👍Would have liked us to have got him a couple of seasons ago when he was rumoured to be available? Big man that can score goals and hold the ball up as well, yes short term only, but great for me if possible? Could be used as part of a deal if the Rice rumour goes ahead plus a centre back. ⚒⚒⚒⚒.

5.) 19 Nov 2020 16:33:26
Thx very much, 002.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

6.) 19 Nov 2020 16:35:44
I read that Giroud has been told that he needs game time if he wants to be in the frame to play for France. Being a back up wouldn’t be enough for him for his next gig.

{Ed002's Note - You are right, Giroud would not move to be back up.

7.) 23 Nov 2020 08:47:10
My worry is the names being mentioned would want to be guaranteed starters. Dembele for example is upset at a few games on the bench, that could well happen at West Ham and then we have another stroppy person who won't help the squad. I rather we get someone who wants to be at West Ham and isn't known for being upset every time they are benched.

8.) 23 Nov 2020 09:51:44
Giroud is a BIG no for me. Age would not make him a wise siginig even if on a free as he would want big wages and take up a spot we need available for a long-term striker. Michail is 30, we do not need an imobile striker at 34 to come into our squad.
He would NOT start ahead of Antonio when fit, and for anyone criticising Haller in our current system Giroud would not do better and would potentially be even less effective given his age is slowing him down even more.
Great player in his day, but there is a reason he is not starting at Chelsea and even Tammy Abrahams is ahead of him. Tammy for me would not get in our team ahead of Antonio. We need someone who can replace Antonio's energy and athleticism.

I've seen we're about to sign Frederick Alves, a 20 year old centre back, will come into affect from January, anything on this Ed?

Stevie66

{Ed002's Note - I am afraid I cannot help. My notes say that Arminia Bielefeld and Emmen looked at Frederick Alves.}

1.) 03 Nov 2020 22:17:23
Apparently he’s in London with a medical booked.

2.) 05 Nov 2020 08:10:53
Stevie, no nothing about most players abroad unless well known, looked at his profile and for his age age and experience, looks worth taking a chance for a £1.2m fee, unless others start looking and it increases the fee? Don’t like it when it’s common knowledge 2 months before it happens. ⚒⚒⚒⚒.

16 Oct 2020 19:32:55
It's done I've seen him in the shirt ⚒.

Stevie66

1.) 16 Oct 2020 20:19:24
Didn’t think it would drag on without some sort of positive outcome, well pleased as my son in law who follows Forest in the Championship, thinks Benrahma was the most exciting forward in the league last season scoring some great goals! Hope he follows it on👍👍⚒⚒⚒.

16 Oct 2020 19:20:31
I've seen one report that Benrahma deal is done, does anyone know?

Stevie66

16 Oct 2020 14:41:22
Ed, have you heard that we could now be after a loan deal for Benrahma with obligation to buy?

Stevie66

{Ed002's Note - I am not keeping that close to the situation. However, it would not be a good way to try and do business with Brentford at this late stage.}

1.) 16 Oct 2020 15:26:52
Would it be an idea to loan Benrahma, so there would be funds still available to buy King, maybe sell Anderson or Haller next summer to then buy Benrahma if all goes well?

2.) 16 Oct 2020 17:13:46
Hi stevie66 no news on BENRAHMA but KING definitely staying at AFC. COYI.

Where is Alan Irvine these days, haven't seen him on the touch line lately?

Stevie66

30 Nov 2020 22:02:28
Wasn't a good performance, but this league is up for grabs, no one is running away with it, let's hang in there and see where it takes us.

Stevie66

22 Nov 2020 15:56:27
Haller could've had a couple of goals today had other players passed to him when he was in a good position but a great strike to win the game, he's got to sort out his body language and attitude, he always looks miserable even when he scores.

Stevie66

1.) 22 Nov 2020 18:28:16
It’s because Chelms hates him and he can’t get over it. 😉.

2.) 22 Nov 2020 19:07:58
😂🤣Well said Markro, love it😂🤣 but I can be converted, I’m not that rigid or bloody minded, honestly! I am in contact with at least 5 WH fan’s including myself, on a regular basis, Not one of us rate him for similar reasons, lazy etc! So that simply cannot be coincidental?
But I as I said today, the best game today by far for me he has played, but still not converted until given the chance he is consistent! ⚒⚒⚒⚒.

3.) 22 Nov 2020 21:13:29
Haller scored a great goal, but his overall running and positional sense is poor. Mind you, at least it gave Antonio another rest.

4.) 22 Nov 2020 21:29:41
Cant really complain to much about Hallers performance today won countless headers. Great finish and showed glimpses of quality lovely cushioned header down for soucek.

5.) 23 Nov 2020 08:50:33
I saw some suggest elsewhere that he doesn't even look happy about scoring, the whole disinterested goal celebration, like what's the fuss I just do this, he actually did a fair bit in the Bundesliga.

01 Nov 2020 08:32:40
Morning all, we've got to sort out the striker department, I think we've all said that if anything happens to Antonio then we are stuffed, also Fab had a couple of handling errors last night, now I think he's a fantastic goalkeeper but he is 35 and that's another position we will have to look at sooner or later, maybe we should keep an eye on Burnley's position if they're still around the relegation zone come January (hopefully we're not), players might want out, Chris Wood, and Pope to name just a couple?

Stevie66

1.) 01 Nov 2020 16:05:26
Absolutely.

2.) 01 Nov 2020 21:25:29
Last week Fab was one of the best against City, now social media are having a crack at him. I know a week is a long time in football but come on.

3.) 01 Nov 2020 22:17:18
We all love Fab mate but his age is against him and sooner or later we will need to to look at other keepers.

4.) 03 Nov 2020 10:14:41
I said earlier this year we need to be looking for a new number 1 Keeper if possible, as you say Stevie we all love Fab, he has been fantastic for us, but you can’t ignore the fact after his 6 weeks or so out last season, it started our downward slide, he is also going to be more prone to reoccurring injuries as well! Quite the worst position to be in needing a new number one Keeper!
Also agree with Wood and Pope but not sure we would get either, suggested several front men on earlier posts, Wood, Mitrovic, amongst others, we just need another type of Antonio? ⚒⚒⚒⚒.

31 Oct 2020 19:25:59
If you sit back and let a team like Liverpool play on the edge of your box then sooner or later they will get through, and can Haller run, he just walks around in the centre circle.

I’ve seen that we would have to pay £20m for him, no chance, we can do better than that.

Don’t forget Hugill was top of the goal scoring charts in the championship when we bought him?

How much could we get King for, Bournemouth turned down £13m from us in the summer but he’s only going to have 6 months of his contract left come January, so Bournemouth could’ve shot them selves in the foot as we could get him for less surely, £8-£9m, what do you think?

Wherever Giroud goes he will only be a bit part player, he’ll either start a game and be subbed after an hour or he’ll start as sub, but he’s got huge experience in the prem but he’s not the quickest, King has got a bit more pace and younger, therefore we can get an established front line for quite a few seasons, how long would Giroud be with us, would it be until the end of the season or maybe the season after at most, we don’t really want to keep looking around for strikers, it’s a tough question but I would go for youth.

If he said he was fit and ready to play why hasn’t another club snapped him up then?
