So I’ve been reading that Moyse’s new “dilemma” is the match day 18 v City.

Haller has recovered from a knock and with Benrahma must been included.

If all fit, Moyse is likely to start the same XI.

So who misses out?

It seems odd that you need to officially submit your squad (up to 25) for the season, but only name 18 for match day.

Is there any reason why it’s limited to 18?

Why can’t subs be chosen from your full squad?

Eds? Is it just tradition?

{Ed002's Note - Until the mid 60s there were no subs allowed. Then you could name one and then it went to two, three and then five. Recently, to finish last season, it was expanded but the Premier League clubs voted against it for this season when it was offered up - the argument being that it would favour those sides with stronger squads (typically the higher-profile sides). However, what I do expect to happen moving forward is (a) a push to lower the maximum number on non Home Grown players from 17 to perhaps 12 or 13, (b) an increase in the number of "Club Developed" (having been with the club for a year before turning 19) players which currently only impacts UEFA competition, and (eventually) (c) changing to matchday squad such that a minimum number of Home Grown players must start the game (say four), and a minimum number of Club Developed players (say four again) need to be in the match day squad. There are already rules surrounding this in other countries.}

Thx for the info.

2.) 23 Oct 2020 08:10:12
Markro, yes very difficult section for DM after recent gutsy performances? For me Haller doesn’t warrant any selection anywhere, maybe controversial to say so to some punters, but his contributions have been nil for me!

Whether he will start Benhrama against City or not is difficult, but I think it will be Fornals who starts but will be the one to be replaced either way which will be unfortunate, unless he is having a atinker! Some may possibly say Snoddy should make way on the bench, but he always grafts and makes some contribution, certainly Yarmo must be in there to call on? ⚒⚒⚒⚒.

3.) 23 Oct 2020 17:51:02
All decent points (except about Haller 😂) .

4.) 24 Oct 2020 08:33:24
Markro, sorry mate😂🤣Can’t get my head around when it when I feel he cannot adapt up front and at least look as if he is putting some effort and enthusiasm into a game, I cannot accept a whole team system should be changed to suit one player! Enough of Haller🤣Really looking To the 12.30 KO, again really interesting now the whole team is really pulling together and grafting for each other! Just hope no niggling injury problems especially arguably against one of the Worlds best teams! ⚒⚒⚒⚒⚒.

5.) 24 Oct 2020 09:58:58
i too don't think Haller is good enough to disrupt a team that is pulling together. He has a lot of talent and is a decent footballer but he doesn't do enough work, i can't see him making the subs bench let alone starting a game.

6.) 24 Oct 2020 11:45:05
Haller I think is a good player, but a good player that doesn't at all fit into moyes system, a system that has been doing well in last 3 games can't see at all how he fits in except as sub in last 15 mins.

7.) 24 Oct 2020 11:50:25
Just seen the line up no Benrahma anywhere🤔⚒⚒⚒ Bideford our favourite Haller is on the bench🤣Markro and a few others will be pleased Haller is there! ⚒⚒.

8.) 27 Oct 2020 02:24:35
Also that great forward OZIL scored 33 goals in 184 apps at 0.18 per game and your slagging HALLER off yeah right no wonder you tried the assists stat ed your so transparent I can nearly see you what a great charity giver that OZIL was. COYI.

Claret and Hugh reporting that the loan deal is done. £4m loan fee and obligation to buy if certain requirements are fulfilled.

1.) 16 Oct 2020 19:36:13
Confirmed on WHUFC website.

10 Oct 2020 21:34:54
Sky now weighing in, saying a deal for Benrahma is close.

1.) 10 Oct 2020 23:35:36
Totally pointless signing, we don't even play with a left winger we gave been using wing backs.

2.) 11 Oct 2020 08:30:20
ROBBO, As I said previously, I have no idea how good or not so good most players outside the Premiership are or Even what position they play in!
It if he’s a left winger, we already have a proven winger in Yarmelenko who I think is underused! But the squad does seems light at the moment! Hope we are injury free for the Spurs game next week and show the same zest and energy for that game and don’t sit back to try to defend as they have the 2 most prolific front men in the Premiership in Son and Kane⚒⚒⚒⚒.

3.) 11 Oct 2020 09:13:39
Chelms from what I've seen he's a decent player, but not what we need, we need cover at cm, cf, cb and lb so seems very strange being a cynic this seems like another sully signing.

4.) 11 Oct 2020 10:46:19
Our first XI have been excellent for the last two games now that Moyse has found the right formation and, on paper, our bench looks pretty decent. But I agree that we lack real depth. A couple of injuries, or virus isolations, could be damaging.

As I see it, we have Cresswell/ Ogbonna/ Balbuena/ Diop vying for places in the back three; Coufal/ Fredericks/ Johnson at RWB; Masuaku (with maybe Snodgrass/ Lanzini as cover) at LWB; Rice/ Soucek (with an ageing Noble) at CM; Antonio/ Bowen/ Fornals (with Haller/ Yarmolenko as cover) up front.

The obvious problem spot is CM. If either Rice or Soucek go down, we have no pace and power to replace them. This would be my priority. Apart from that, another CB for extra cover would be great, especially a left footer.

I do, however, like the look of Benrahma and would like to see him in Claret and Blue.

5.) 11 Oct 2020 12:26:51
Sounds a bit out there but what are ppls views on diop acting as cover for rice and soucek he's fairly strong can carry the ball upfield kouyate esk.

6.) 11 Oct 2020 13:14:08
I’m not keen on the idea of another winger but maybe they have the cash for one more player cb/ dm cover plus there’s the free transfer market to consider.

{Ed002's Note - Craig Dawson perhaps.}

7.) 11 Oct 2020 14:12:44
Wysiwyg with Dawson: experienced and consistent, but well past his best now. He would be a short term band aid and doesn’t fit with the young and hungry mantra.

If the Benrahma saga proves to be successful, we MUST add a strong, fast CM, who can disrupt play, as an absolute necessity.

8.) 11 Oct 2020 14:16:35
Ben Davies from Preston apparently and how about troy Deeney. don't like deeney personally but could be a good addition.

9.) 11 Oct 2020 17:47:33
Deeney has been a good servant for Watford, but he’s not for me.

10.) 12 Oct 2020 06:49:05
Markro - did you really suggest Lanzini as LWB cover? I guess technically anyone could cover, but an injury damaged number 10 seems an unlikely candidate!

Biggest trouble with all this is it smacks of the underhand on-going insistence on signing players with strong links to a single agent only. Seems pretty nefarious and not without some kind of "motivation".

Strange we've suddenly got the money for these two but were always a few mil short of the European CBs that weren't via the favoured agent from across Europe, despite them being cheaper than others bid for.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck. it's probably a duck!

11.) 21 Oct 2020 21:35:37
Whenever we've come up against DAWSON at the back he's always impressed i remember him marking CARROLL and DAWSON never got beat once in the air he might lack a bit of pace but pacey C/ B are as rare as hens teeth and he isn't slow by any means and I truly believe given the chance could become a fans favourite I know there ain't fans ATM but you get me joust.

20 Aug 2020 10:54:42
We are finding it hard to do any business this window. A large part of our problem is the Mega wages we pay. Who is going to leave to go elsewhere for a smaller wage, because the potential destination clubs won’t match what they’re on?

On top of that clubs are strapped for cash because of the effect of the virus.

Difficult times, BUT as I keep saying, our current squad has plenty of strength to do more than just survive.

Chins up, everyone and let’s start well against the Magpies.

1.) 20 Aug 2020 11:23:30
October fixtures look a nightmare!

2.) 20 Aug 2020 17:32:44
Stevie, at least get them out of the way quickly👍👍⚒⚒⚒.

3.) 20 Aug 2020 19:45:41
Agree when I saw the fixtures my first thought was damn October looks hard, and in fact if we don’t start well in September we could easily be at the bottom in November. But then you need to look at how we finished the season and if we can start with the same intensity teams like Leicester away should be seen as a good challenge not a concern.

4.) 20 Aug 2020 22:24:37
Apart from the unexpected victory against Chelsea, where if they'd had their shooting boots on they could've won by 2 clear goals and a draw at a disinterested Utd I'm struggling to see how our post lockdown form can give us massive optimism for next season.

We were comfortably beaten by Wolves and Spurs, huffed and puffed against a stoic Burnley to no effect and fluked our way to a tepid draw against Villa - a side we should have relegated tbf. I'll be honest and say I really don't know if the draw against Newcastle was a good result or not such was their injury list and on the beach mindset. Norwich and Watford were good results but they were against such poor opposition it's hard to use them as a guide to next season.

Don't get me wrong, I was as pleased as anyone to stave off relegation this season but unless we address the glaring weaknesses in the squad this coming season I fear all we did at the end of last season was to paper over the cracks. : (.

5.) 23 Aug 2020 12:46:26
Very pessimistic view of those games Billy.

Chelsea didn't have there shooting boots on but we did so you could call that form. Not to mention we had a goal wrongly removed against them because of Antonio blocking keepers view when he wasnt.

We were better than Newcastle and they were lucky to get a draw. The only thing stoic about burnley that game was the keeper considering he got MOTM and tarkowski should have been sent off but went on to make crucial blocks when he shouldn't have been on the pitch.

Smashed Norwich and Watford. We were good a against man u who tbf still had something to play for and were on a good run of form.

As for villa we played well considering they were fighting for there lives and we were safe.

Also before the break there was some decent performance notably being unlucky against liverpool when unusually fabianski made mistakes to let them retain there unbeaten run.

07 Aug 2020 11:39:29
“You’re Jovane, I bet you think this post is about you. ”

Yes, it is. The rumour mill has us in advanced negotiations with Sporting, so I did the You Tube thing.

If we have the cash, I’d take him.

1.) 07 Aug 2020 13:32:41
You can never really tell in a 3 minute clip but I see what you mean. Reminded me of Revel Morrison when he played those few games, like the one at Spurs.

2.) 07 Aug 2020 14:59:25
Markro, it’s the eternal pessimist here from Chelmsford😂regarding non Premiership experienced players that have to relocate from abroad! I wonder how many would have seen clips on YouTube or wherever from our other signings that have looked world class, only to fail miserably when it comes to the real test of our Premiership! Sorry mate, but would love to be proved wrong if it goes further, if it was another Tomas Soucek then👍👍⚒⚒⚒.

3.) 07 Aug 2020 21:07:44
We have made a lot of transfer mistakes in the past, how many items have been brought on line but when u get them your disappointed. Buy what u know not what agents are trying to sell you. i'm sure DM has a list of who he wants and who he dosnt. I hope DM gets the backing that he deserves.

4.) 07 Aug 2020 22:00:10
Hey, Chelms. Love the cynicism! We’ve both been WH fans for far too long, mate.

TBH, I don’t think we’ll get the lad, but I’m still a dreamer after all these years.

I’ve heard that a pessimist is what an optimist calls a realist.

Roll on next season and let’s avoid any relegation scares this time.

5.) 08 Aug 2020 08:41:10
Optimism is Every August thinking West Ham will qualify for Europe this season pessimism is Every April is thinking we are going down. Realism is every May we have finished 17th

And me I am the most Optimistic pessimistic Realist West Ham fan lol.

6.) 08 Aug 2020 08:56:59
Hello Markro, I actually think that’s a really good analogy of my WH pessimism👍 Actually in the normal way apart from our beloved WH, my glass is always half full! As you say fans for a long, long, while now like a lot of us! Being a Manager in this era trying to manage a squad of millionaires must be a nightmare, especially those that think they should be an automatic first team choice come whatever! Looking forward to the new season like all of us, hopefully a couple of new additions if possible?

7.) 08 Aug 2020 09:18:39
Soucek will prove to have been the best business this window. Anything else is a bonus. 😉.

8.) 08 Aug 2020 21:21:53
Already got too many wingers though so it doesn't make sense.

With the exception of that crazy first 20mins v Spurs, our defence has been really solid for the last 4 games.

We are however, over-reliant on Antonio up front. What is plan b?

25 Oct 2020 16:16:48
Goals by Fornals, Lanzini and Antonio should already be in the frame for goal, of the season.

24 Oct 2020 15:21:15
Excellent result.

Rice and Soucek are a top midfield pairing.

1.) 25 Oct 2020 11:17:33
Could have been all 3 if var made the ref check the clear pen on Antonio.

24 Oct 2020 08:56:00
It’ll be interesting to see the bench today (as I expect the starting line up to be the same. )

If Moyse’s recent comments on Benrahma mean he’s not even in the match day squad for this one - that would be madness.

Let’s hope for a good performance today. City’s injury list should give us our best shot at improving our dreadful home record against them.

1.) 24 Oct 2020 12:11:45
Don’t be too harsh on Moyes leaving Benrahma out, he introduced Bowen into the team slowly and look how that’s turned out, we’ve got a fully fit squad so who do we leave out, you can’t drop Lanzini after that thunderbolt of a goal, Yarmolenko’s hold up play and all round game is great and Snodgrass’s work rate is fantastic he doesn’t stop working, and we need Haller as an alternative striker, so if Benrahma isn’t up to premier league speed yet then I think it’s probably the right call, it won’t be long before we do see Benrahma play we’ve just got to be patient, but someone will eventually have to make way for him but not until Moyes is happy that he is 100% ready.

2.) 24 Oct 2020 12:45:24
Just realised Snodgrass isn’t in squad today.

3.) 24 Oct 2020 13:27:26
Benhrama has not ever played at this level, give him time.

4.) 24 Oct 2020 14:22:42
Haller has to go in January. I’ve given him enough chances.

5.) 24 Oct 2020 23:19:13
I will have a bet with anybody that wherever HALLER goes if he does then when FIT he will score goals the guys played a few games against BAYERN MUNICH and caused them problems and scored in most games against them if bringing him on the 85th minute and expecting him to explode in 5 or so minutes then people who slag him off are braindead and I think he probably earned us a point with a defensive header late in the game give him a run of 6 or 7 starts and then pass judgement. COYI.

6.) 25 Oct 2020 07:17:19
Whorya, we all have different opinions about players, but I don’t consider myself “brain dead” when it comes to judging what you see when you evaluate a players performance! DM clearly doesn’t rate him but is lumbered with him, how much time should Haller be given? He was jogging around from player to player yesterday against City, not even trying to tackle any of them, he looked like a schoolboy playing against men, bloody useless for the Premiership! He clearly doesn’t want to play for us but wants to pick up his massive wages, lazy ——-
Think we would have been wiser to give Hugill more of a chance than Haller! ⚒⚒⚒⚒.

7.) 27 Oct 2020 01:03:37
I'm sorry but you must be brain dead if you think HUGILL is a better player than HALLER how many goals would HUGILL score in the top flight of BUNDESLIGA FOOTBALL come on please we are talking players 2 or 3 levels apart and I didn't call you brain dead so you must be paranoid and I cannot believe I am even replying to HUGILL being a better proposition than HALLER and I don't want to sound rude because that ain't what I'm about but I'm sick to death of people slagging off a player that hasn't been used to his strength do your research chelms mate and have a look at HALLER statistics in GERMANY and then look at HUGILLS stats in the CHAMPIONSHIP and then you will stop this ridiculous vendetta against a player that especially after ANTONIO got injured then who did they bring on YARMOLENKO then I'm sorry if I was HALLER I would have thought I'm a striker and he's a winger and look what YARMOLENKO did when he came nothing at all nearly cost us the game and if you watched it mate HALLER stopped sterling getting a free header from their corner and you didn't slag him off no let's have a dig at a player whose got more ability than HUGILL and YARMOLENKO together so please do your research granted you were right about WILSHIRE but not about HALLER. COYI.

8.) 27 Oct 2020 01:06:43
Do you blame him when DM brings on YARMOLENKO rather than the STRIKER we had on the bench please tell me why we spent £45 million on HALLER I will tell you why because he's class and not been used to his strength and formation schoolboy do me a favour. COYI.

Like many others I have been frustrated by Sullivan’s historic playing at transfer deal maker, but I think things have improved. I’m betting that Moyse’s return to the club was prefaced by discussions about who has the final decision on transfers.

Benrahma is a quality player and, for me, an upgrade on the Anderson of the last 12 months. If he makes a real splash with us, we’ve got an appreciating asset on our hands too.

For all their Trotter Traders reputation, S&G did save the club. The mysterious dream of an American consortium is alluring, but if it doesn’t happen, we’re not doing too badly.

I didn’t know that. Respect and kudos, then.

{Ed001's Note - for some reason anything good regarding Ozil tends to get ignored. The media decided he was lazy and so would ignore the fact that he covered the most distance every game while playing for Arsenal, even when Alexis Sanchez was in the team and being praised for his hard work and running. Even when he refused to take the pay deferral like the rest of the Arsenal squad, it was spun as him being greedy, when his only reasoning was that he wanted the money to go to low paid workers at the club. They wouldn't have been able to get rid of the 55 staff they did if it was up to Ozil, as he wanted an agreement that no one would lose their jobs and the pay deferral by the players would pay staff wages so no one had to be furloughed etc.

Yet Aubameyang uncaringly takes a huge pay rise, just after the 55 are booted out the door, and it is all about how great he is and how he deserves it, while Ozil is still being slaughtered in the media for being greedy! Mata gets, rightly, lauded for the Common Goal initiative he helped start up for players to give just 1% of their salary to charity and called heroic and caring etc. Ozil was already giving in excess of 50% away to charity and is apparently greedy, lazy and uncaring. I just don't understand the hate for him and why he is treated so appallingly by the media.}

He wasn’t registered in time to play, unless you mean Haller, in which case I’m equally baffled as to why he isn’t even on the bench.
