Right then, let's see if we can start a bit of a debate. I'll nail my colours to the mast straight away, by saying Gold & Sullivan have done a great job since they took over, IMO. They inherited a club £100 m+ in debt and going nowhere but downwards. Since then they have reduced the debt by over £30m, brokered a move to the Olympic Stadium ( increased capacity, therefore increased revenue) as well as spending millions of their own money subbing transfer fees and wages. The club is obviously being run on a budget, with an eye to further reducing the debt and turning us into a sustainable, long term proposition. When they employed BFS, I had my doubts I must admit, but he has done a terrific job - promoted in his first season and tenth in his second. He has begun to build a really good squad, but this has had to be done on a budget. Whilst I'm as frustrated as anyone else with the apparent inactivity in the transfer market this summer, we have bought an England centre forward, the captain of Rumania, and we shouldn't forget that last season he got Matt Jarvis, Mo Diame and Joe Cole. The return of Diarra and Morrison adds depth and variety to the midfield, and now Maiga has got over his malaria we may well see a new player in him. There's still over a month left in the window, so still opportunity for another signing. I find the negativity of some fans quite incredible and short sighted, and everyone needs to realise that the development and long term survival of the club is far more important than blowing money we haven't got, and putting all this in jeopardy. A weeks ago David Gold said we will make ONE marquee signing per season, so anything more than this will be a massive bonus. BFS WILL SEE US RIGHT! COYI.
Well said. but as all fans believe we are as still a forward short but they do seem to know what their doing so think BFS one more signing is a smoke screen. Think we will sell at least two before window closes.
Well said doc also believe some posts are not by hammers fans i'd be more than happy remy season long loan and sinclair on the wing
I am with you on all aspects of this article, However we are West ham fans what what the summer be like if we didn't have the roller coaster ride that is the transfer window, its great I love the debating and the disagreeing it makes the non football season almost bearable!
I do agree with you Doc our club was in a mess so we have to be eternally grateful to Gold and Sullivan for what they've done for us so far. I think that we all want to see us progress even more which is a tall order when you consider we finished tenth last season, I do wonder if we will achieve tenth or higher with the current squad and that not me being negative I just want to keep my feet on the ground. I do remeber Sullivan saying that the seven year plan for us was to get into the champions league and short term plan was to secure our immediate future which I think will be achieved with another couple of solid season in the premier league. Like everyone else we all want to see our club achieve great things and let's face it we've not been blessed with the best owners in the past so let's hope the seven year plan is a realistic vision because it would be amazing to see us at the highest level playing Barca and Madrid. Like I said I'm eternally grateful to the owners but we will need at least two more attacking options this coming season so that we do progress or the burden might be to much for Carroll to get all the goals, if Maiga can produce like he did against the saints last season it would be like signing a new player but we'll have to wait and see.
