Blimey, it keeps on getting better and better. Thanks for all the info Mike, been following for years but never commented before, your insight is always welcome. This may be the first year I'm not staying up until midnight on deadline day waiting for that "marquee signing" - we've already signed about 3 of them! Positive thoughts going into the new season, and am lucky enough to be going to the opening game this year at Anfield.

Sorry guys, was rushing during my lunch at work, I googled Panama, not Paraguay! As I understand it, he would still have had to play 75% of the games in the last 2 years, based on a ranking of 32nd - still wouldn't be enough, would have to go down the appeal route, which does look ok for us. I may be wrong (I have been before - see above! ), but that's how I see it.

diggidydee - I've just done a bit of digging, and hopefully this is right - he wouldn't automatically qualify due to Panama being lower than ranked 50th in the world, and he wouldn't have played enough matches any way. We would have to take it through the appeals process, where you have to get 4 points for the appeal to be successful (although it can still be turned down), and by my reckoning, he will probably get 5 points on the points system I saw. May be wrong, but that's how I saw it.
