So rumour has that we are preparing to sell Rice in the summer for £150m, is this the right decision or have we got to somehow try and persuade him to stay, the only way we can do that is to make some top signings ?

Was this the daily fail? I haven't seen the article however a so called west ham site was regurgitating that rubbish with the headline Moyes has given up on keeping him.

Strange considering he has 2 years left on his contact with an option, we are still in with a chance of qualifying for champions league. We are team that's growing and we've done incredibly well with a limited squad. If we make some good signings In the summer and show ambition I see no reason for him to leave unless a mammoth offer comes from a team that regularly challenges for titles.

Basically another made up story.

Can’t see any side in the world paying £150m for him or even 100m. The option has to be agreed with Rice, the club can’t unilaterally extend his contract by a year without his approval

Personally I'd like to keep Rice, but I wouldn't begrudge him joining a team that regularly challenges for titles like Man City or something. A players career is defined by the accolades and trophies they win. Whilst he is an outstanding player for West Ham, on a realistic level, if we do qualify for Champions League, are we likely to win it? Even the Premier league, are we likely to win that?

If he does leave, as long as it is for his career growth and not for money, I would thank him for his service and wish him well.

We would have to get big money for him and invest it wisely though.

Aston Villa sold Grealish last year and bought some decent players, they've not suffered by losing him. With the same savvy investment in players, we wouldn't necessarily do badly by selling Rice. We might even get the best out of Soucek again by giving him the slightly more advanced role Rice is in now-a-days.

Depends on the option, Johnson’s was unilaterally extended two years as he hadn’t signed a new contract. I believe Rice extension is also purely the clubs option too. As for the 150m story it came off the back of a silly story about the club arguing internally about him. I think you will find it is just reporters making up stories at this stage.

Inclined to agree with DIE_4

Yes, we’d all love to keep Rice, but a player with his skill, power, engine and heart deserves to win trophies and competitions.

West Ham are not that club, yet.

If we buy at least three mega players this summer, then things might be a bit different, but can we really compete with the likes of City and their financial clout?

We’ll see.

It's a bit of a chicken and egg argument - how does one progress by selling one's best players?!

Rice won’t be sold this summer unless a silly bid comes in

Hiya fuser what price do you think RICE is worth because for me he's right up there with the best in his position in Europe if not the world I understand the economy isn't strong bit for me unless a bid of £100 million or very near that then I think west ham are within their rights to turn down lower bids because if GREALISH is worth €100 million than RICE definitely is.

Rice is indeed much better than "young" Jack (27 next birthday). So any valuation should include it figured into it. Don't forget some clubs sign players just so their rivals don't get them - mind you not our problem. That last case IMHO is what happened with Grealish.
