A 3rd of the way into the season and taking a look back at our results (not performances) and given what our expectations should be i think the ONLY bad result that we can realistically be upset about is the loss to Everton at home. We can't expect to win every game and we have had IMO one of the hardest fixture lists of anyone in the first 10 games. Losing away to Villa is no bad thing, and draws to Bmouth away and NewC at home are not terrible results either. Brentford away is maybe one to consider, but should we EXPECT to win there, no, but a draw would have been nice. Reverse that Everton result and we'd be 7 points of top!
The real meat in the pie will show with our results against the teams we play now in the 2nd half of the table, and competing against the ones around us. We have won the last two games where we should be winning, but only JUST! Not great, but I can't help but think we won those games when not at our best, which ain't a bad thing. My expectations up to Xmas are that Palace, Fulham and Wolves are games we should be winning, Spurs (A) and Man UTD (H) are games i want us to compete in and if we get a result i'd be chuffed. We can't expect to win those two however (agree Man Utd are in turmoil atm but they are somehow gettig results), i consider Liverpool a free swing. If we get to Christmas on 40 points then i'd say FAIR PLAY to Moyes and the team. Might not like the style of play, and long-term i'd like to see a new more progressive manager (someone LIKE Alonso) but without a decent striker and losing our man Declan, we have got to give credit where its due guys.
We have Moyes until end of his contract, club owes him that at the very least after the seasons in Europe and winning a trophie last year, and he has acted proffesionally considering he may nto be here next year. Jan could be SO important for us, if we can ship out Ings, Cornet and (sadly) Fornals then get in an effective striker we could be in for a decent season. Hoping Tim Stieden has the next Ollie Watkins up his sleeve somewhere!

Nickino, I was actually giving your post a little nod of agreement but you completely ruined it with the 40 points by Christmas comment, especially when you consider there are only 5 league games between now and Christmas.

So the maximum number of points we could have by Christmas, if we win all our league games, is 35 and if I am honest, the way we have been playing, we won't win all those league games, especially off the back of two midweek Europa League games

Hahaha just spotted that myself, 40pts! What a clown. 30pts is what I meant, must have been a typo. Get 10 points out of those 5 games and I'd say that's a pretty good return.

You have to be happy with the league position given the way we have been playing, but thirteen games in and I was trying to think of a game where we have dominated the opposition for the majority of the game and were comfortable winners. I can think of one and that was the Brighton game. We are getting away with games for me but winning when not playing well is not a bad habit to have.
