Despite having a £4 million pound bid rejected for Connor Wickham yesterday, West Ham are expected to go back in for the Sunderland striker with a significantly higher offer.
Indeed, the ever reliable @ExWHUemployee is this morning reporting that the former Ipswich man is aware of the East London Club's willingness to increase his wages, and a new deal including goal bonuses amongst other add-ons is being drawn up.
With Sunderland reportedly looking to regain the £8m initially spent on the 21-year-old Englishman, West Ham are to try and tempt the Northern Club with £6 million in upfront fees and a further £2 million depending on clause activation.
Wickham, who only has 12-months remaining on his Sunderland contract, has already rejected a new contract offer from his current club.
What amazes me is that Southampton approached Hull with an enquiry about Shane Long and Hull stated he was available at the right price being £12m. The Saints took no time at all to bid £12m which of course was accepted.
What puzzles me is, if we were serious about Connor Wickham, surely we must have asked Sunderland first what they were looking for. Admittedly businesses try to get as good a deal as possible, but surely if we want him that much we should have just bid the right amount in the first place. He would have been training with the rest of the boys this week

Hi there
I'm hoping someone can shed a little bit of light on what is going on with 4 days to go until season opener cause I'm confused?
News has it that we've bid for Connor Wickham, however, there are numerous stories saying Diafra Sakho has passed a medical with us and wqe've agreed season long loan with METZ for him with a view to permanent move (Toon waiting in the wings on this one).
Meanwhile, we have Valencia (not match fit), Carroll (out till the decorations go up), Cole, Maiga and Elliott Lee. All in all 6 strikers if we got Wickham or Sakho for a Manager who plays only one up front?? Square peg in a round hole?
Then there are other deals we are trying to agree (true or not). Sampdoria are sticking to their guns for Obiang (who again we under bid for and who would be a great addition), WBA rumoured to be after Jarvis (Get rid I say) and Morrison deserves to be locked up. Toon are favourites for Zaha who we were after and Hull expected to go back for Dawson who we continue (apparently) to have talks with.
Added to this that we are apparently Interested in Daniel Agger (somehow I think he's going to Milan) its very mixed up but I'm sure will all come out in the wash.

Has anyone got any news on Winston Reid new contract this seems to have gone quiet IMO he is the captain to lead us into os and that would be the best signing of the summer
