Can someone please tell me why have we not tried to sign Defoe on a short term deal, I can't stand him but there's no doubt he could do a job whilst we are desperate, we are one injury away from a crisis

Does it really matter? as well as he did last season yesterday was the worst performance by a West Ham right back I have seen in forty years of watch the Hammers, he went much better against Leicester!!
