Long time reader here new poster. A lot of comments on here are very sound however some just begger belief. A couple of years ago somebody on here, still posting, said they'd drive Song to the airport themself now some of you see him as some sort of saviour. Same when we employed Moyes, vilified him and now he's the victim. People have to appreciate that football, football clubs and football players are bit parts in big business. Every owner in the land, not just ours (who have a shocking habit of opening traps before engaging brains) is after one thing, profitability. Either to generate an income or a future sale. They were never going to spend big money in January as from a business perspective it was unwise to do so. If we were to go down any player on a big salary would have been sold at a loss just to reduce the wage bill. A lot of people on here for example were saying sell Hernandez in January for a potential 8m loss. Would you buy a house in August and sell it in January for 50% less than you paid for it? I agree the people running this incredible club are idiots when it comes to public relations but they are proven business people and they will look at the business as a whole. My fear is that they think relegation from a business perspective with parachute payments etc and a chance to build again may be a sound option. I hope I'm wrong.

Hi Dabber welcome to the debate

The point about not spending money in Jan for fear of going down is noted. but would that be not the reason to spend money on positions we desperately needed to give us a greater chance of not going down, take Dendoncker for example £20m, even if he turned out absolutely crap i'm sure we would off load for something near that, his 22 a Belguim International and if he did get a game in the World Cup and done well maybe even make a profit, so the initials outlays in realty worse case scenario is we may have lost a few mill.

Your right these two are proven business men. BUT not in football, its a completely different than selling smut. When you say business as a whole? . so do you mean if we were in championship and and making £5m profit a year that's OK? . as its good business!

The need to stop lying hire a competent Director of Football and stay in the back ground and run the club, there is enough money in the Prem and our ground for them to make a profit and still enhance the club, by alienating a decent income source ( fans gate money) is really not great business IMO.

Hi Warrington, greatly respect your posts as always written in a considered way. Please don't get me wrong, I'm no great fan of DGS but the problem with buying in January is paying over inflated prices for people you can get later at a more reasonable amount. I agree Dendonker was worth the risk as the investment could have been recovered if the worst happened however not all are like that. We have some great players and reasonable squad depth. What we can't account for is injuries to key players and idiots who get themselves banned for 6 games at a critical time of the season. To this end, from a business perspective loanees and freebies are the sensible option and yes personally I'd take Song as I felt he had a great season and an adequate one.

I know what u mean, but I would like to know what was said to him by the fan to get that reaction, I don’t condone the action but would be nice to be given the facts, Moyes knows the story and has said he understands the reaction ( doesn’t condone ) . Let’s give the man a chance and fr the short time he’s here treat him as a West Ham player .

Jason’s, well said re the Evra remark, we all know the scum bags that get
pleasure at swearing and hurling abuse at players that mostly
cannot react to the horrible taunts, how would we like that abuse shouted out at us knowing mostly there is nothing we can do, they’re mostly cowards I am sad to say, they should not be tolerated in grounds. I have seen it so many times over, adults with kids shouting abuse at players then their siblings do the same, morons, kick them out! Always 2 sides to the story.

Buffons I meant and I knew CHIQUARITO was our best GOALTHREAT by a mile and majority of people wanted him gone, he was simply being asked to do an ANDY CARROLL ROLE which he is a totally different player than tgat and why MOYES has improved our fitness ( which is what managers are paid to do) i'm dubious of him staying because of my point about CHIQUARITO but with ARNAUTOVIC he simply thought he was a certain starter under slaven and was not putting effort in so I don't think its about moyes improving him he's always had ability because that's why we bought him he just thought he was untouchable and when dropped he perk his ideas up. COYI.
