I have to say, people who believe we should sell Rice should hang their heads in shame. These same people are astonished when we sold Diangana but are quick to show the door to our best player, who also come through the ranks. Regardless of the money offered we should keep him now. That is what big clubs do, regardless of popular opinion I still consider West Ham a big club. I also cannot agree with a cash plus player deal. Ross Barkley is not the sort of player we want. Always makes poor decisions in the final third. Finally, whoever said Tammy Abraham is a £40M player is wide of the mark. If Chelsea want him, they can wait till next summer and pay what West Ham want. That's how big clubs do business, West Ham is a big club.

We aren't a big club. We've got potential. but not a big club. Do I want Rice to stay? Yes. Will he? Probably not.

Nobody who is a WH fan or any fan of their club would want to see their most crucial defender leave, but it’s rather exaggerated to say “they should hang their head in shame”? Would you shackle any member of your household that wanted to leave home that was a responsible adult? The simple fact is he is to good for our club, let him move on, what if the same applied in our own working life changing employment when we may be offered a better opportunity! We will hardly be letting him go for a minimal fee, life and players move on, we have to get over it, simple! ⚒⚒⚒.

Of course I’d want Rice to stay, he will be our captain and the only player worthy of wearing the number 6 shirt should that ever come out of retirement (which it won’t), but other teams sell there big players, look at Leicester after they won the league they sold Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez, and more recently, Harry Maguire and Chillwell, and yet they are still battling at the top end of the league, it’s all about getting the right players in, and the trouble is these players will only come to us because we would offer astronomical wages, for example, if West Ham and Leicester had exactly the same offer and wages for Tarkowski he would probably join Leicester but if we offered an extra 20-30k a week then he would probably join us, and that’s where all our money goes I’m afraid, wages, wages, wages? I would like to think we are a big club and just because we’ve got a big stadium and the best fans I’m afraid that’s not enough!

Perhaps Mikesiron is trying to remind those who originally pissed and whiner about us selling Diangana not to become hypocrites and start letting selling Rice for big money let the “big money” cloud our judgement.
I bet half of you would have been quite happy to have seen Diangana leave if we had got £45m got him.
We should keep Rice at r club. He’s signed a contract with us and that’s binding. Perhaps when C.V. is behind us, there are crowds coming into the stadium again and generating gate receipts we can rethink it. But I would rather keep him this season while the club steadies the financial ship.
HammerDave. We ARE a big club and if you think I otherwise then you are basing the size of our club on how much we spend on players.
Sure we aren’t giants like Man UTd and Liverpool but in terms of fan base name any bigger.

{Ed025's Note - everton, city, leeds, chelsea, arsenal, spurs, newcastle, wolves?, i dont see you as any bigger than those teams mate..

We are not a big club, although we have the potential to be a big club. Sometimes you have to do things not liked by the fans, like selling Rice. I am a true WHU fan, but if he wants to go, his best mate is there, European football and trophies; then he’s going to go. We CANNOT offer ANY of this. Plus he’ll get a whopping payrise. I am a realised, having been involved in football. People move for money and success. we cannot offer either. Fact unfortunately.

Unlike others I was fine with Diangana going, was a good sale. But hope now we can hang onto Rice. I said a few weeks ago if he was going it had to be early in the window, now it is getting a bit late to come out if it well.

West Ham offer Rice the opportunity to play for England. The highest accolade a player can get. Vice captain of THE club in East London. That character development is essential to walk into a dressing room of the ilk of Chelsea. People forget football isn't only the Premier League. Harrogate, Southend, Doncaster, these are NOT big clubs. West Ham is without doubt a big club. Bigger than both Wolves and Newcastle mentioned above. Nobody outside England knows those clubs. The whole of Italy knows who West Ham are. That's a fact. I know who I would rather play for. Rice will go, but for those who doubt the size of our club, he can go at the earliest, next season, on West Ham's terms.

Coyi64.how are we a big club? I know you love WH but that shouldn't hide the fact we aren't. We aren't any bigger than 3/ 4 of the other teams in the Premier league. So we ARE NOT a big club. We have a big fan base and a big stadium. But so does Sunderland.

Spot in Mikesiron. I responded to Ed’s comments about West Ham being a big club (not necessarily bigger than Everton etc but big none the less)
Ed never posted it though. 😁
Perhaps because he now understands what I meant by my post. 😁😁.

{Ed002's Note - Or maybe he has not seen it yet.}

Ed025. If you read my post it DOESN’T say we are bigger but AS big. When our own fans don’t see us as a big club then I question upon what criteria they base these comments. We aren’t a giant of a club, but we are a big club.

{Ed025's Note - all the clubs i mentioned would i imagine see themselves as bigger than west ham 164, im not saying they are but it would depend on what criteria you used mate..

I think BIG club all comes down to your definition of big. Everyone probably knows where we stand as a club in the UK and globally, but see big as meaning different things. We are not big if you are talking Manchester United, Real Madrid, i. e. Champions League clubs from the top leagues as big, but on a scale of all clubs globally we are big. I personally would love to play for West Ham than any other side but that is because I am a fan and never made it as a player. If I was a player and had 10-12 years at the highest level I might think differently and want to add some trophies, play Champions League, hard to say.
