At the game yesterday I thought we were excellent, although against the best team in the world we were miles behind. It was a pleasure watching City.
Our midfield of Alcarez, Soucek, JWP, Pacqutta, Bowen looks really good. It has a nice balance and we look really strong. Antonio troubled the city defence. Our defence and GK also look solid. Apart from Man City and Arsenal if I were WHU I would not be worried about anyone.
Hitting teams on the break obviously works for our team and they enjoy playing it.
Pacquetta is obviously our star player, but Soucek and Alvarez look super solid together.

You cannot be serious Soccerschool. If you think we were good, it just confirms you live in a different world. I lost count of the times Man City split our defence and peppered our goal. Haarland missed at least 3 sitters and Areola had the game of his life. They could have scored double figures. Apart from clearing one shot off our goal line, Soucek was anonymous. Antonio had a really bad game and Bowen was quiet. Man City had 69% possession, 29 shots on goal to our 6, 15 of their attempts were on target. And you call that a solid defence! Get real Soccerschool and wake up to the real world.

Hmmmm, to be honest, I'm not sure which game you were watching Soccerschool, And I don't mean that to be rude or argumentative. City are a great team, granted, but our performance was dire. Aguerd had a shocker, Antonio wasted a glorious opportunity when 1 on 1 with the keeper (YET AGAIN) . Doku tore Coufal a new one. We couldn't retain the ball because we sat so deep. If we continue in this vain, somebody will rack up double figures against us.

The players don't like MOYESBALL, as Declan Rice pointed out after he left us. During the summer, so many players wanted out and that was partly due to MOYES and partly due to the football (if you call it that) . Why would Anotnio and Cresswell want to go to WOLVES?

Nothing will change as long as he is in charge. On the brighter side, I'm hoping that the reason we haven't offered him a new contract is because he will be gone (One can hope) .

Daisy, you and I obviously watched the same game. I think the Moyes contract situation depends entirely on how this season goes.

Overall I didn't think the performance was that bad against let's be fair the best team in world football. The Antonio chance was crucial. If we could of gone 2-1 we might of got something. Antonio is just hopeless at one on ones with the keeper he has no natural finishing instincts. A good striker puts the keeper on his arse and scores.
I still think the lack of a striker signing will cost us a couple of positions higher come the end of the season.

There is good signs though the midfield is looking very good.Coufal struggled but I think he's been good in all the previous games.Emerson has been excellent likewise Zouma. Aguerd needs to cut the silly errors out or he will be replaced by Mavropanos. Areola has been really solid.

So all in all I think there is a lot to be positive about. I would like to see Kudus play the striker role and I think we could do some damage this season.

And lucky for us, Antonio has juist signed a contract extension? So, in the summer he wants out and now he resigns? Lots of loyalty their me thinks

BoleynBoy and Soccerschool, I agree with you both?
What on earth did we expect against the best team in World Football as you said, absolutely ridiculous what some posters on here expect, but it’s so consistent from them, nothing will change their constant critical outlook? ⚒⚒⚒⚒⚒

Don’t be so negative, Chelmsford! ? Some of us hope and expect our team to win.

There’s something wrong when your goalkeeper is consistently the man of the match!

Chelmsford: “I rarely expect our team to win, hope maybe but never expect, That’s what makes you to critical! ”
And we’re the ones accused of being negative! ?

Having read the posts I agree with Chelmsford and Soccerschool. Against the best team in the world we played pretty well. If you remove City and Arsenal from the equation we have a season to look forward to. I think ourselves, Spurs, Utd, Villa, Brighton and Newcastle will vie for 3-6 positions. I think our best team is: Areola, Coufal, Emerson, Zouma, Ogbonna, Bowen, Alvarez, Soucek, Pacquetta, JWP, Antonio. This side reminds we of the one from 1980-1981 and 1986. Full of good players, workers and one star.

It's a good thing that people have differing opinions. This particular match reminds me of how different witnesses see things differently. To my mind, we were lucky to get away with such a small scoreline on a day that Man City had 29 attempts on goal to our 6, they missed quite a few sitters, one or two of them being open goal situations, clearances off our goal line, our goalkeeper pulling off a number of worldy saves, and where the opposition had the vast majority of the play. We were lucky that the score was not greater. It could easily have been 1-8 or even more on a different day. I wonder if you'd think we had a good game if Lady Luck had been smiling on Man City instead of us?
