Hernandez is exactly who we need to be on the end of Payet's crosses and through-balls; he'd be a great signing.

Speaking of which, another assist for Payet yesterday, he is already looking like the signing of the season. Pure class.

Hernandez is a decent player for sure and I would love to have him on board, but Man u are short of strikers so I don't know why they would let him go, on top of that he is largely un-proven because of lack of opportunities so surely for a little bit more cash Austin would be a better proposition, at least he has proved his worth.

Agree about the challenge to persuade Manchester United to sell. Given that he scored the winning goal in the Champions League final, had a better goals per game ratio than Benzema while at Real Madrid, is fourth best in the all-time goals per game ratio for the Premier League and is the second highest goal scorer of all time for Mexico, I'd say El Chicharitto has proven his worth. And at 27, he is coming into his prime.

Think we need to change our negotiation strategy. We have tried (for many weeks) to have 4 or 5 irons in the fire and none are coming off.
Let's decide on the striker we want and pay the money. £14m for Hernandez (what United want as per ironmike) or £15m for Austin is very close to our valuations. So £2m extra to secure our target seems a deal to me.
And yep Jarvis et al are not the starting 11 but come Xmas we need bodies and they are not bad as back up. If we want to progress we have to convince the chosen striker that he's wanted and not part of an "any of the 6 will do" strategy.

Hernandez is unproven?? He averages a goal in less than every three games. And bare in mind he rarely plays the full 90 minutes in those games.

I agree, Hernandez will score us goals but tends to go missing when playing from the start. Austin for me is a far better all round player and although regarded over priced will give us goals, which he did do with a relegated team.

Is £15 million over priced for a striker who is proven in the PL?
I have read that he could of been a one season wonder, which is fair comment, but surely someone who scored 18 goals last season knows where the back of the net is, and playing along side better players more chances will come his way, we can no longer rely on AC even when / if/ ever is he fit. CA played 35 PL games last season which suggests he mainly stays fit, not worth a punt for £15 mill?

Hi Die 4 whufc and Paulo 99, you are right about his goal return, my point is that he hardly ever plays and doing it as a sub or by playing a dozen games a season is NOT what we are after, I stand by my opinion that he is unproven as a 30 game striker in the prem, he could prove to be a sensation, but I am merely making the point that Austin has done it already, Hernandez has not.

Austin is no where near Hernandez league, completely different players I know, but anyone who would rather Austin over Hernandez i'm sorry but you need to re evaluate

Austin could indeed be the next big thing. or he could just as easily end up being the new Michael Ricketts or Franny Jeffers! Hernandez is a no brainer, quality out and out goal scorer who would score 20+ a season for us easily. One of our best bits of transfer business in recent history if it ever came to fruition.
