I agree that something is not right with the Rice situation. When a young player shows his ability any club would jump at the chance of tying him down to a long contract. To not progress with negotiations tells me that there is more to this situation than meets the eye. Any top club would have done the business by now so the question has to be asked why? What could his fee be now? But in 3 years time it could be sky high if he progresses as he is. I remember we had Michael Carrick who looked a world beater, but we lost him, we can't lose Rice in the same way.

Hi Hammer

I think the Carrick situation was slightly different as I think we were relegated, and not only did we need to sell off he would have been difficult to keep hold of him, but get your point

The more I think about if the more i'm convinced something has happened and this is not just straight negotiation talks, Sullivan is no fool when it comes to money and knowing his potential and value in the years to come, for the relative pittance Rice is after in football terms wages you would have thought this would have been put to bed months ago.

Dont suppose you heard anything new Ironmike?

Could it be the new contract structure that the club want to implement is the issue?

Maybe Jason

But it a pretty hard stance to take, . basically Sullivan is saying take what we offer or not. Rice says no and leaves on a free losing a possible £30m. Sullivan not stupid something else is going on that's the only reason for this in my view.
