It seems according to the tabloids that we are willing to let Andy Carroll leave for £18m and Sunderland and Newcastle are both very interested. AC has said that he will only leave West Ham for Newcastle, however, is this a smokescreen should BFS allardyce come calling.

I also hear that we have had a bid of £7.5m turned down for Gorkan Tore!

Sam Byram still very much on the cards APPARENTLY (which would be a great move) . Other clubs are also interested ie EVERTON

Keisuke Honda is another player of interest and as always other clubs are also now sniffing around him, Namely Everton AGAIN and Spuds. I'm just wondering how many of players we target will Everton also target (remember that 18ft striker Lacina Traore)!

Whilst I think Andy Carroll has played well in the last two games, his injury history is always a slight concern. If you look at the previous two seasons, Carroll has started getting a run of games, started playing well, and then gets an injury that rules him out the rest of the season.

Also… If West Ham allow Andy Carroll to leave they surely must have someone lined up to replace him. Whilst we do have Diafra Sakho returning from injury soon, and Enner Valencia also capable of playing up top… I’d rather not risk the possibility of playing games with Nikica Jelavic leading the line because he simply isn’t good enough.

Depending on what paper you read, Carroll is on £70-100k a week. If we did sell him for £18 million it’d certainly give us money to play with in this transfer window. The likes of Gokhan Tore looks a strong possibility, as does Keisuke Honda, but are they the players we need if we sell Carroll? Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to see both players pull on the claret and blue shirt, but we already have an abundance of attacking midfielders at the club (Lanzini, Payet, Moses, Antonio and Zarate, add to that Valencia who has been playing out wide as well in recent weeks). I personally think that if we sell Carroll, we need to be signing at least one replacement forward. Charlie Austin perhaps? Probably not on massive wages at QPR in the Championship, probably would be interested in a return to the Premiership especially with the Euro’ round the corner.

id snatch thier hands off for 18 million and go buy zaza but to be totally honest can you really see anyone spennding 18 million on him with his injury record? i'm also pretty sure sunderland couldn't afford that anyway even if he did want to go there

Leabang we couldn't afford the wages of all those 3 players even with carroll gone.

Have to agree with REDROBBO2. I don't believe if we got all those players we could afford the wages even with Carroll gone because they won't come cheap.

I also doubt Black Cats will make a move for Carroll whereas McClaren is very keen on him and Remy.

Why would we want Ashley Young? Ok, he can whip in a decent ball and likes to run at players, but he is 30 years old and probably earning in excess of £50k a week at Old Trafford.

We already sold Matt Jarvis for £2.5 million to Norwich City, so if we get £18 million for Andy Carroll, and another £4 million for Mauro Zarate, that would give us £24.5 million to reinvest in the squad this transfer window.

Based on the players we've been linked with recently.

£3-5 million on Sam Byram from Leeds
£6-8 million on Andros Townsend from Tottenham
£8-12 million on Gokhan Tore from Besiktas
£6-8 million on Charlie Austin from QPR

We've apparently got an option to buy Manuel Lanzini for £7.5 million at any stage running up to the end of April, so we need the funds to complete that deal.

Simeone Zaza would be a good option, and I would definitely look to sign him, but I personally would rather go for him in the Summer.

{Ed002's Note - The club are committed to completing the Lanzini transaction as soon as possible.}

to be honest I'm pretty happy with the squad as it is we have players coming back from injury I'd wait nill the summer unless someone exceptional comes along as it's rip off time for transfers now
sam byram might be worth a punt as I believe his contract runs out in summer so might be cheap

plus 18 million for Carroll is paper talk no one is going to pay that for someone so injury prone.

I'm not really a Carroll fan in fact I think he is overpaid and overpriced but let's be honest we are never going to get rid for anywhere near what we paid for him, but he has done a good job last couple of games, with payet back and feeding him I think he will do a ok job and get some goals if he stays injury free, then when Sakho is back who I thought was brilliant till his injury, revert back to Carroll as "impact sub" but if someone does buy him for a figure that dgs are happy with, I say Zaza all the way.

If Carroll did leave couldn't see him joining the mackems he is a toon fan through n through he may come good but chances are he will be injured again I'd take the money with the likes is slimani/ Zara out there.
Wouldn't take young full stop as for Townsend levy won't let him join West Ham full stop he wants 14 mill for better version of Jarvis not a team player in my book and levy won't allow him to join west ham.

If, and it's a big if, someone was willing to pay 18m for Carroll I think we should take it. But I wouldn't want us to splash all the money in January if the right players aren't available. January buys have always been too expensive and not necessarily the right people. We can still loan from outside the EPL so if we can't get our real targets to develop the squad we should look at that option till June when the real business can get done. Byram appears to be a good target so definitely go there.

There is no way we would get £18m for Carroll, no one is going to risk 4.5 mil per season wages on someone so injury prone.
Even if someone was mad enough to sign him on a free, he wouldn't join Sunderland and he would be reluctant to join Newcastle as they are very likely to be relegated, his wife's business is in London, he is happy, he is going nowhere.
Having said that, for me, there is no one better to bring on for the last 20 or so when you need a winner or chasing an equaliser.
