Hi Ed002,
Any interest in Declan Rice?

Also, would United be interested if Lingard moves to WHU?

TrueRedDevil

{Ed002's Note - Declan Rice (DM) come the summer the player may well want to move on and the club is harder hit by the pandemic than most in the PL and may have to offset costs by selling (albeit at the right price) to one of the Manchester sides.}

Ed, why have West Ham been hit worse than other PL clubs?

{Ed002's Note - Because of the way the finances are structured the pandemic has hit West Ham very hard financially which means they may need to sell, regroup and buy. In terms of revenue streams the income is not huge and the gate receipts have been gone for more than a season, the broadcast income for last season dropped by £45M - and commercial income for West Ham is pretty low compared to other clubs. Overall the club lost more than £50M last season which was only hit in part by the pandemic compared to the previous season. This season will be far worse.}

I think they actually posted losses of £65M of which I believe £30M was offset by an injection of equity from a rights issue deal.

Also the new TV deal ensured that clubs wouldn't see a drop in the annual revenue they have received from domestic broadcasters since 2019.

Add to that the securing a £120M loan facility and the club - in the short term at least, isn't in as bad a shape as it could've been.

To give a bit of perspective as to how the C.V. has hit every club not just WHU, Spurs posted losses of £68M, Arsenal £48M and Everton a whopping £140M.

I'm not insinuating that the club hasn't taken a massive financial hit - of course it has but it's not a case of HAVING to sell Declan Rice, rather it's a case of WANTING to sell him and that's a distinct difference in my book. A difference which speaks volumes regarding the actual ambition within the club's hierarchy.

I hope I'm wrong, we keep Rice, buy wisely and bring in genuine talent capable of taking the team to the promised land of CL qualification. The sceptic in me however foresees a summer of loans, freebies and John Lundstram.

BillyDWizz, I am very impressed with your sensible, informative and in depth post, for which you have done your research?
You’ve got my vote for the job👍 Let’s hope we can keep Rice and moreover, Rice wants to keep us? I will be very disappointed if he wants to go, but he will owe us nothing and would have been a great investment for us, so good luck to him if he moves on, he certainly is a Rolls Rice of Footballers!
However we mustn’t disregard others that have had a fantastic season to push us up to dizzy present heights, Soucek, Coufal, Lingard, Ogbonna, Cresswell, in fact all of the regulars👍👍⚒⚒⚒⚒.

What kind of budget are we looking at?

5.) 19 May 2021 16:01:12
I've read somewhere, can't remember where that there's a summer budget of £50M + player sales. So if we sell Rice for £80M we may well end up with a budget of £52M.

6.) 19 May 2021 17:17:47
It's more about who you buy than who you sell. If you sell well and buy wisely it works.
Leicester sold Mahrez, Kante, Maguire, Drinkwater and Chilwell for top money and look where they are.

7.) 19 May 2021 19:48:53
Yeah but they bought in players like Fofana, Castange, Perez, Tielemans, Soyuncu and Maddison. I'm not all that convinced we'll sign as wisely should we sell any of our players.

8.) 20 May 2021 09:59:05
Wouldn't sell rice for less than a 100m anyway and I wouldn't be overly confident we would spend the money wisely either. I hope this summer we don't waste loads of time trying to get players who don't really want to come. I think 50 million plus money from sales of the likes of Yarmo, Anderson, lanzini should give us enough to create a squad good enough to compete in the prem but Europe and prem is a stretch on that budget.

I don't think clubs have the money west ham want apart from city i can't see him leaving the only way i think is abroad and i don't think there has been any interest in him there.

Stevie66, Not sure if you watch United's games, Greenwood plays mostly on the Right side of attack as a first choice. At times he plays up front if Cavani is unavailable.

Lingard is most likely to be sold. If Rice is included as a swap option, West Ham will have a huge advantage.
