So the season starts this weekend, the window closes in a few weeks, so far OUTS: Masuaku, Yarmolenko, Fredericks, Noble, Martin INS: Scamacca, Aguerd, Downes. I haven't included Areola as he essentially just turned the loan into a transfer. So 5 out and 3 in of a stretched squad last season. Yes the striker role was needed and we hope it is an upgrade (we shall see), Aguerd is now injured but looks like an improvement on Diop if Diop goes, but that will be another one gone. So we start the season further stretched and probably the same starting line-up as last. Cornet looks promising to get over the line, but just wondering how others feel about the window. I said in May this would be a make or break transfer window in terms of competing for the best of the rest and right now I think we might come up short and be in the mix of 8-14 places. Just wondering why it is we can't get players over the line. Is it we are identifying players that would never come to us so we are going for the wrong targets? Or are we unable to sell the project and so just not good at closing deals? I would say is it purely money, but I don't think that is the case if Forest and Everton are beating us to players. Just baffled to be honest.

Cornet isn't a left back so we sign a player (not done yet)a ask him to play out of position potentially i'm wondering if areola could play at L/B potentially.

Were stronger now than last season . That's progression

It's clear we need further investment in players to keep ahead of the likes of villa and Newcastle. I would hope that we will bring in a left bsck and at least another cb but clearly rebuild is in progress. What frustrates a lot of fans is where we chase players for weeks and for one reason or another let transfers drag on only for another club to come along and sign them. What a waste of time

I get frustrated reading this.
We are in the top 10 spenders in Europe. Got rid of players who we don't need. Improved in key areas.
Signed some great players.

Yes, we still need players, but this isn't football manager. We will continue to build year on year. Gone are the days of buying just utter rubbish and hoping to stay up. I see a longer plan here. These players we've signed aren't 33 yr olds.

Personally, I think it has been a superb transfer window. Those that left barely played, and those that have arrived will push to start. Squad is SIGNIFICANTLY better.

Hammer Dave, yes we have improved the side but we were short of numbers and options last season and we are now thinner than we were then. Come February we will be in real trouble unless a few more come through the door, so be frustrated reading it, but Moyes has mentioned his frustration at the numbers as well.

I totally agree with Hammer Dave because virtually all the players that have gone, we’re players that hardly ever played and Whilst I agree that we are short on numbers. But we did have about 25 players last year yet many of those players were never played. At times we had hardly any recognised centre backs yet Moyes chose to play players out of position than play an actual centre back. If we have a squad of 20 or a squad of 30 he will only pick from a hardcore of 15/16 players

The winter World Cup May suit us. It’ll allow many of our players a break: Cresswell, Dawson, Antonio, Scammeca (not sure how you spell name), Flynn, Fornals?, Bowen?. Can’t remember if Morocco, Algeria n Czechs qualified

But Hammer D that is exactly the issue, he needs decent players that he can pick that are not in the first XI. Last season we didn’t have that and this year we are presently in a similar position.

SDL I see your point, but are we going to attract decent players who think they are just going to warm the subs bench. The sheer lack of players will become a real issue if we have an injury crisis for sure. But unless Moyes will change his strategy then I can’t see anyway we are going to change. Vlasic is the most expensive example. I’m very reluctant to slag off Moyes as I know how much he has done for this club. But i do feel the players we have lost have been replaced by upgrades maybe not in number but hopefully in quality.
Today was horrendous but Scamaca was one shining light. Hopefully we get our act together ⚒

Noises of Diop not wanting to play to force through a transfer, talk of Vlasic going, and still murmurings of Benrahma going. So I forgot Kral before, so 6 out 4 in to date and two or three more to go, so unless we get 4 more in, which will still see us below last years numbers, will be a long hard season I fear. I know I sound like the pessimist, I don't mean to say it is all doom and gloom, but this was the window we needed to push on having missed our chance in January, and I fear we will be treading water. yes we may have improved in a couple of spots but we still have the same full back issue, same central midfield issue, and depth issue. To keep growing we need to fix those and be ready to accept that if Rice leaves next season we will not replace him with someone as good so need to be overall stronger as a group in many roles. There is a chance to make European competition a common thing or just drop away and be mid table and below - I am just worried we are doing the latter.
