I think we could do a lot worse, prem experience, works hard etc.

Just look how haller turnt out

Could be a cheap January option.

Mark123, agree we could do a lot worse, but think we could do a lot better as well! He will be on a free at end of season, Palace are offloading in the hope to just get something for him? His reputation was earned at Villa years ago, not done much since he went to Liverpool then onto Palace! We need a younger model possibly British experience whose pockets aren’t already lined with Gold?

On the back of beating league One Doncaster at home, Alan Irvine has basically come out and said that Yarmalenko and Afolayan are the solutions to our striker issues.

Yarmalenko just isn't a striker, he's played there 8 times for clubs in his career scoring twice including the one yesterday and twice for Ukraine - No goals. I don't get the train of thought that he's somehow, suddenly turned into a striker. He hasn't and he isn't.

Afolayan, of course I'd love to see him get a chance but to have to rely on him for goals in the PL if and when Antonio's hammies decide to go ping is, in all honesty brutally unfair on him. What happens if he goes 3, 4 or 5 games without scoring? He'll get as vilified as Haller was, that's what'll happen and that's just not on.

If I were a betting man I'd stick a few quid on us not signing a striker this window as Irvine's comments are an insight in to the clubs thinking imho.

We're only an injury away in a number of positions from having problems. Trouble is, I think Sullivan is happy as long as we finish above 18th not to put his hand in his pocket this window and that's a shame since there is a real chance of pushing on for an European place this season.

Hope I'm wrong and we see a couple of signings before the window shuts but I'm not holding my breath.

I wouldn't want him agree with chelms he's done nothing since Villa.

Unfortunately I think you are correct aawell Billy. As fans we all want to see ambition and there is a great opportunity for Europe but injuries in those areas where we are light could easily derail that. Also Europe would mean we would have to invest even more into the squad.

Odubeko would have been ahead of yarmo and afolayan I think this lad might be abit special but I agree its a lot of pressure for a young lad but also a great opportunity.

Billy, I agree with your Yarmelenko comment as a converted striker👍 I have to admit I posted on here I thought Yarmelenko could be tried as make do help out for Antonio, NO he isn’t! Not enough effort, to slow, just a bench player until his contract ends!
I have to say I am not interested in Europe unless we have stupid cash to splash, graveyard for a small squad that have exceeded expectations, prime example was Burnley a couple of seasons ago!
PL is our bread butter for the immediate future? âš’âš’âš’.

Billy he can play both as a striker and on the left wing 38 goals for the national Ukrainian side second all time best scorer after shevchenko goal averaging 1 in 3 games in domestic leagues goals scored approx 130 goals in approximately 350 league games.

Yes he's scored a bucketload for Ukraine but NOT as a striker which is the point I'm making. He's played as a striker for his country TWICE in total and he didn't score.

As for domestically having a 1 in 3 goalscoring record, I'm not doubting it for a moment but again he wasn't deployed as a striker. As I said, he's played CF a total of eight times in his league career. That makes him about as much of a striker as Antonio is a right back (and once, just for good measure a left back) .

Yarmalenko's career bio should be different. It should say - He CAN also play LW and HAS played CF. The difference in the wording is subtle but on the pitch the disparity is huge.
