It would be interesting to hear other posters opinion on the subject of "pay cuts" for football players, especially those in the Premiership! I am reading in the "Mail" on Saturday about clubs surviving, FA staff taking pay cuts etc, etc.
This world pandemic is a massive leveller for every human being! I for one have for years been disgusted by The Premiership being awash with money paying obscene monthly wages that some of us will never earn in a lifetime! I would love to see them bought down to earth to know what the real world of average living is like! Many think they are god like, I for one hope this changes the financial scene for the foreseeable future for Premiership earnings! âš’âš’âš’âš’âš’.

I am surprised that contracts don't have a "force majeure" clause for pandemic. I work for a FTSE 100 company and that is a standard part of our contracts. Even more surprised that the FA does not have pre determined rules for not completing the season. After all its not as if this sort of thing has not happened before. But then again maybe I am not that surprised as most football club owners, chair persons, administrators etc are a bunch of chancers.

{Ed002's Note - The contracts are constrained by date - they all have a June 30 end date (modified for leagues with split seasons). There is no need for force majeure clauses as they are controlled by a single organisation (FIFA). FIFA are aware that they need to adapt the rules if the season is to continue beyond June and will allow month-on-month extensions (or even game-by-game). So that is not a difficult issue to contend with. Not completing a season happens rarely (only once in England) and it is not something it would be easy to write riles for. As for you last sentence, it is simply not true.}

I don't know any large business that has not considered pandemic as a top 10 continuity risk, so to argue that it has only happened once in England is stretching the defence of the FA beyond the realms of the credible. The very fact that this has not been properly considered and catered for is indefensible and yet you try to defend. I wonder why? And yes my view that they should include and should have included a clause in all player contracts is also a valid point.

This circus allows players to be paid massive wages even though they cannot play and is an example of the people running football not being fit custodians and my guess is most supporters believe football clubs and administrators are a bunch of chancers. Just because you say it ain't so does not mean that it is not so. Evidence is the number of clubs on the brink of collapse, Sepp Blatter, Platini etc.

Who really believes that the FA's fit and proper person tests are worth the paper they are written on after the sort of fiasco we saw at Leeds and the unfortunate events at Bury. So bottom line is that FA, FIFA, Clubs should have planned for this and they did not. That strikes me as an excellent example of poor administration and Football is not alone in the sporting arena of being poorly administered.
