Another pre season we seem flaky at the back . is this midfield going to be able to compete against the top n other mid table sides I still think we are light a striker to cover Haller Antonio needs to many opportunities and that's to balls over top where the defense has pushed up fb needed and s dm I think we are two heavy in midfield attacking wise.

I thought Wilshire was pretty effective today when he dropped deeper to play alongside Rice. IF he can stay fit, then he's certainly a decent option playing a more holding role and is perhaps a reason why Pelle isn't really busting a gut to sign a DM (even though I've been screaming out for him to sign one! )

A 5 man midfield of Rice, Wilshire, Anderson, Fornals and Lanzini looks pretty decent to me and Noble, Antonio, Yarmalenko and to a lesser extent Snoddy aren't bad bench options to have either.

Sanchez scares the bejesus out of me to be honest, but today at least he wasn't worse than awful. It'll be case of hoping everyone stays fit and we won't have to worry about him this season I suspect.

I just wish we'd stop messing about, forget Sturridge fgs, go and get Balotelli, a LB and a CB. If that were to happen I'd be quite a bit more confident about next season as I was a few hours ago!

Wilshere in the deep role supporting Rice has been MP’s plan so far in pre-season. It will take a few more games to get it right, with the more attacking midfielders (Lanzini, Fornals and Anderson) judging the play well enough to know where to be when Wilshere surges forward, so that Rice doesn’t feel isolated, but I’m sure it is the way forward for the team this year.

I expect us to score more and concede fewer. I’ll also put my neck out and predict a goal difference of at least +8.
