Hammer, Why not reward your best and most outstanding player to take us forward hopefully into Europe as the highest paid at the club, exactly the right thing to do imo?If Rice was to go it could start the trend for others to go if offers come in? ⚒⚒⚒⚒

The lenght 8 years why would you sign that
The money side if we can afford it then why not but the lenght for me is ridiculous

I totally agree that we must do all we can to keep Rice. He is the new heart beat of the club now that Noble is in the process of retiring from playing. We have for to long produced top players to let the so called bigger clubs have all the benefit when they come into there prime. Now we are showing that we can challenge for a European spot at hopefully year on year it is essential to keep your best players to progress.

He wouldn't sign an eight year contract I wouldn't think, at least not without a release clause. Who would?

If Rice was a new player that cost a huge fee that needed to integrate just like the previous transfer mistakes from overseas players WH have made on massive wages then underperform, then yes 8 years is far to long!

However does anybody not think outside the box in non Footballing terms about a contract and the players future for himself and family.
They are obviously like any human and their working life can be cut short at any time by an injury or accident, perhaps devaluing any future income at a young age!

What else should a club do to keep their most influential and consistent player but make him their top earner? If WH are trying their utmost to retain him, how many would be complaining we should have tried harder to keep him if not, we can’t have it both ways? ⚒⚒⚒⚒⚒

Chelmsford no way would he sign an 8 year contract without a release clause. It isn't just a matter of securing his future but also a matter of having the ability to negotiate that future if things don't go as he would like. He is not going to go short of a penny even if his career ends earlier than expected so he isn't going to be desperate for that type of security that most of us seek, he is already a millionaire. No way will 8 years attract him unless it comes with ability to get out of it if he isn't happy IMO.

Sdl, I agree with your comment, but if WH are desperate to retain him and he wants a release clause, why would WH or Rice not agree to it, if Dec doesn’t want it then he almost certainly wants away! Shame if he goes but we will do very well out of the deal to buy in the transfer market! ⚒⚒⚒⚒

There are 2 flips of this coin.
1. It gives him security for the rest of his career in case of injury 2. He actually wants to leave, but does not want it announced.

We have NO chance of getting £150m for a CDM. If we got £100m and invested it wisely, I personnaly would sell Rice. We could get 2 9/10 players, or 3 8/10 players, whatever, our side would be increased and bettered by losing 1.

Sounds like as usual these rumours about Rice are not quite right and the parties are not going to negotiate until season end.

the £10million-a-year package is being viewed by Rice’s side as West Ham co-owner David Sullivan playing to the crowd and another stunt by Sullivan

Sounds very likely, like a ‘we tried to get him to stay for 8 years, not our fault’
