Apparently David Moyes is not looking to sign a goalkeeper this window because he believes Fabianski is good enough to still be our number one for a year and Randolph adequate back up.

Instead he is choosing to invest the money he has in other areas of the squad. Which I don't mind at all.

However, Arsenal have apparently made an approach for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Now, Onana is currently looking at a 12 month suspension from football as a result of taking a banned substance. He is appealing the decision as apparently it was a mistake as he took his wife' medicine rather than the one he was meant to take in error.

He is a superb goalkeeper, still only 25 and apparently available for as little as £7 million even if the ban is lifted. This figure is likely to fall further if he loses his appeal to have the ban lifted.

When you consider Chelsea were looking to sign him for significantly more money prior to signing Mendy. and when you consider he is still young, has bags of potential and still to see and has Champions League and Europa League experience, I think we should be all over this and trying to get him in.

Hi Die 4 I think it's a bit short sighted not to sign a keeper as Fab only has 1 year left and has had a few injury probs. I really like Johnstone and evidently he likes west ham. Listening to the England game where Stuart Pearce was commentating it was clear he likes him as well.

Hey mercerl, I would rather we did sign a goalkeeper and that is what my post was about. I think we should be all over Andre Onana. I have also said in previous posts that Tomas Veclik the Czech no. 1 who is a free agent after leaving Sevilla is a "free" signing agents fees and bonuses etc aside that I think we should look at.

I have just seen a few reports recently that Moyes is looking at spending his budget on improving other areas of the team first.

I also saw a report the other day that apparently the Sam Johnstone link is off because we deem him too expensive.

Don't know much about onana but all poked at Veclik a couple of weeks ago he seems to have lost his place at Seville due to Injury and wasn't offered a guaranteed 1st place, hence him turning down a new contract. You do worry about goalies who have had injuries. I watched Trott a free times a couple of years ago and thought he had promise. Do perhaps Moyes has a long term plan for the position.

If Arsenal go elsewhere then Ryan could be a good backup.

Let’s face it, onana cannot possibly get away with appealing the decision saying he thought it was his but it was actually his wife’s medicine, I would laugh that out of the room if I was on that board!

His ban has been reduced to 9 months.

I still think we should go for him… let him settle in with the squad, settle in with the country and the culture… he is a class goalkeeper worth a lot more than the numbers being mentioned and still only 25 years old.

Do not really see the point in signing a player who is ineligible to play for 9 months, that is a waste of 9 months pay!

Sam Johnstone all day long for me, proven keeper in premier league.
My priority would be a keeper and a couple of strikers, if we can pick up another cb then that’s a bonus.

I see what you’re saying Bobby, but giving him a contract that pays him a fraction of any weekly wage we agree while he is suspended, or signing him with no signing bonus to off set against the wages we’d pay out during his suspension.

Given the money we’d save on transfer fee as a result of the suspension (Chelsea were rumoured to be looking at signing him for £30 million, he’s now available for £2-7 million depending on what article you read) I think we’d be foolish to not at least gauge his interest.

Signing a £30 million goalkeeper for a fraction of the price and not being able to play him for 9 months, would be like signing someone that subsequently gets injured.
