Sky Sports saying we are bidding for Vladmir Coufal from Slavia Prague.

{Ed002's Note - Slavia Prague have indeed said that West Ham have returned - it is a surprise and he is well down the list for West Ham - but will be cheap and he is available.

Additionally, Nikola Maksimovic (CB) Everton, West Ham and Inter Milan have all spoken to Napoli about Maksimovic.}

I have to say I’m surprised we are in for Vladimir Coufal. Having seen his stats his average at best. His ratings are mid 6.5 out of 10 in Czech league.
I’m pretty sure Ben Johnson would be comparable to that. Just seems a lot of money for an average player.

{Ed002's Note - I agree.}

I know nothing of Coufal, but do we seriously believe we will get any more than an average at best player, with our financial implications? But after Sunday’s performance do we need any more than cover? ⚒⚒⚒.

Just seen that a loan bid for Coufal has been rejected?

{Ed002's Note - Given he is valued at very little I imagine they were surprised witha loan offer.}

Ed, is he valued at £4m, if so why don’t they just buy him if they want him?

{Ed002's Note - I would doubt it would be any more Stevie. The lesson to be learned is don't buy players simply for the sake of it.}

Soucek will, I’m sure, have an opinion on how good he might, or might not be.

I’m with Ed on this one. Why buy for the sake of buying. Based upon his player ratings, it makes more sense to loan him and see how he shapes than buy him outright, no matter how low the price. If he’s say £4m and we pay him £20,000 a week which isn’t much. On a 4 year contract that’s still £8m wasted if he languishes in the reserves.

I would seen they have seen enough videos of him and scouted him this loan move maybe due to fredericks limping of.

As always we've left it too late and are now desperate.

Mac. You need to realise that it’s a strange old time with clubs facing financial difficulty.
I don’t think it’s a case of leaving it too late. I think it’s a case if trying to bring in first choice players on a limited budget and having to look down the bottom of the list now.
What you will probably find is that instead of buying players like Tarkowski who we can’t afford and putting them straight into the side, the stance has probably changed and we will make do with what we have and start them and use some 2nd or 3rd choices as back up players.
This I was always going to be the plan if we couldn’t get players we want. However, if we can’t get the 1st choice players who improve the side then it’s better to loan other players until we top up the coffers, make do with what we have and buy the 1st choice players in next window.
Makes perfect business sense to me mate.

Honest I never realised.

Even if just 4 mill that is 4 mill less we have to spend on someone else. I can see why they might have tried the loan for cover but can’t see why we would buy.

who had heard of SOUCEK before we signed him and for what we paid for him he's the best buy for the money in this window. COYI.
