Anyone else think the time might be right to sell Lanzini as he is in the last year of his contract and we have a lot of talent in his position?

Use the funds to strengthen at the back and maybe a good back-up striker?

{Ed002's Note - The issue has to be fitness. Maybe a one year extension to keep value and then see how the season goes.}

I think we may have seen the best of Lanzini. If we could get £15m ish then I’d sell. He looks incredibly leggy now.

Not me. I’m a real fan. I’d love to see him him up with Wilshere and Fornals.

You can´t play Fornals, Wilshere and Lanzini in the same team!

Agree with BillProsser/ Markwhu, players rarely come back after such a serious injury to the standard they were before, have a feeling Yarmalenko may be a passenger as well? if somebody came in with £15m offer, i’d Let him go, but can’t see that offer happening? ⚒⚒.

Alan shearer did!

I would think Pel. would give him 5-6 games before thinking about Lanzini leaveing at his best he was up their with the best, i would give him a chance to get match fit before makeing any decision on a player worth a lot more than 15 mil before his injury. Its the same with Wiltshire a lot of fans wanted him gone but let's see how they both work out.
Also i would take a chance on A. Iwobi from Arsenal at 21 he's the right age to improve has a lot of Prem. exp. can only get better.

Guyser, it’s easy to give examples of players that have overcome bad injuries, also just as easy to so the same with those that haven’t overcome them! I am not saying write Lanzini off, I said Rarely do players come back as good or consistent to previous standards, how many examples have we already had at WH, you don’t need me to name them! It’s too early at the moment to criticise even The supposedly fit players when it’s pre season, but a lot so much comes down to personality and dedication overcoming serious injury, also how long they have left on their contracts to have a prolonged holiday!

Iwobi would be a good buy. I mentioned him some time back. When he played for Arsenal against us, he and Laccazette caused us problems. Iwobi’s final ball is poor, but his national side play him down the middle. I believe Arsenal would sell for £20m, and at his age he’d be a good buy. Plus he’s never injured.

Whilst Lanzini was clearly rusty when he came back last season, I still saw good pace, control, vision and, most importantly, full commitment to the challenge of the tackle.

Similarly, there is nothing tentative about Wilshere’s pre-season performances.

So far, Yarmolenko’s recovery seems the most questionable.

As has been suggested above, if we’re top heavy with attacking midfielders, and/ or need to generate cash to buy in where we are lightweight, I would sell Yarmolenko well before Lanzini.

I also disagree that Fornals, Lanzini and Wilshere can’t play in the same team. If you look at Wilshere’s career stats, he has often played very deep and there was some discussion last year of of him being the ideal player to support Rice in defensive/ central mid.

In my opinion Lanzini is our most creative player hopefully after a full preseason he will be back to his best playing in the hole behind Haller can't believe some fans want to sell him give a years extension then hopefully a long term contract on the money he deserves next summer.

I find Lanzini frustrating, clearly he has talent but fails to deliver on a consistent basis!

Payet elevated his game and of course along with others as well in that team!

I think he tries to mimic is international team mate Messi in trying to dribble all the time which unfortunately more often than not he comes up short on!

Some good points Costa, payet until the strike fiasco was possibly if not the best then certainly one of the best players I have seen in a whu shirt . Lanzini is quality but can get bullied off the ball . As for messi? Yes he plays with world class stars but even he doesn't always produce, let's see what a fit lanzini can do :)

Lanzini is worth considerably more £15 million that's what you pay for decent championship players he's an ARGENTINIAN international for £30 to 40mill is right its going to take him time to get confidence that the ACL is going to hold up he would havebroken down by now if it wasnt going to hold up. COYI.

Why would we want to sell Lanzini, at his best he is at least on a par with Erickson and Mata for example
Sure we seem to be stacked with creative midfielders but injuries and drops in form mean we can’t have enough .
Now we have bought a classy striker let’s make sure that he isn’t starved of decent service .
Last season when he returned was admittedly not the Lanzini we have become accustomed to, but he was out for a long time and it’s difficult to pick up where he was before the injury when only featuring in the back end of the season.
Hopefully a proper pre season will see him back to his creative best . I certainly wouldn’t give up on him .

Problem is if he has a good season we could lose him for nothing next summer and we need funds now to strengthen in defence and need another striker.

Personally, I’d prefer Mata or Erickson.

Lanzini, Fornals and Anderson are the three Pellegrini will use behind Heller, and probably Rice and Noble/ Medel sitting behind. That is a quality set up, plenty of creativity there, to break open those packed defences that teams often play. From what I saw first half of Lanzini against Man Cty in the Asia Trophy, he has plenty to offer, maybe not at his peak yet but I think he will get there come the start of the season. Yarmalenko, Antonio, Snodgrass and Wilshire (who looks in great form could well start against Man Cty) provide quality back up.

Lanzini has a 2 year extension option to the club's benefit I believe which he is currently challenging the legal veracity of.

20.) 26 Jul 2019
26 Jul 2019 16:54:46
Stubbo, hmmm sounds ominous if he may be challenging it, why I wonder would he do that unless he wants away? Looking for a big money payoff maybe before his opportunities start running out? âš’âš’âš’âš’.

21.) 27 Jul 2019
27 Jul 2019 11:10:42
Pretty sure its over money from what I recall.

Think the rumour was the extension takes him up to 70k per week automatically from the 40k odd he's on, and he's obviously seen wages at the club spiral since signing that deal so believes should be getting more.

22.) 27 Jul 2019
27 Jul 2019 13:54:22
If he’s going up to £70k, which, according to reports, is what we are paying Haller - that’s got to be plenty. Of the two who is likely to get more playing time this year?

Bearing in mind, admittedly through no fault of his own, he has basically just had a year on the sidelines, he needs to prove himself.

I’m a real fan of his, but, naive as it sounds, I feel he owes us at the moment.

Medical advice after acl is approx 80% chance of same fitness as before or even better. So fingers crossed.
