Just heard the same and rumour has it that we may well be in talks with Callieri? Anyone know anything more.

{Ed002's Note - Spurs are trying to agree a transfer. It is nothing to do with West Ham.

Palermo, Chelsea, Inter, Lazio, Fiorentina, Arsenal, Valencia, Spurs, Stoke, Roma and Villarreal are all known to have shown interest in Jonathan Calleri but it was Chelsea and Inter who have discussed a possible move with Boca before his rights were completely purchased by third party investors who struck a deal for his registration to pass from Boca to Uruguan second division side Deportivo Maldonado - and then immediately lent to Sao Paulo. Boca were looking to keep him until the summer and were looking for a premium for a winter sale - and that put Inter on a difficult footing and they started to look for an initial loan or assistance from a third party. Chelsea did not really want to take the player until the summer and they would be looking to send him straight out on loan if a January move was pushed and even that was complicated by the player, at the time, having three owners, Boca, Deportivo Maldonado and an investment company. My expectation was that he would therefore stay at Boca until the summer and then complete a move to Chelsea, assuming the new manager was keen. However, this has rather irked Inter who, strapped for cash, wanted to complete the transfer in January, subject to (a) them having managed to raise the funding necessary to make the deal happen (perhaps with third party assistance) as they remain short of funds, (b) providing the player with assurances over game time, and (c) the player accepting those assurances and agreeing the move which would almost certainly mean playing for a different side until June - probably Bologna or just perhaps Frosinone. Inter fell at the first hurdle as they could not raise the money. The player's third party ownership was so messy that Boca were not in the position to negotiate on their own. It is a little clearer now but generally way more ugly than it should be. Chelsea have since stepped back from the whole mess, Valencia have a change coming in the summer and I expect they will drop their interest. Firentina are keen, Inter remain interested, as do Lazio whilst Spurs have moved on but I suspect it is from this group that someone will try and untangle his ownership and make something happen in the summer.}

Wow, thanks for that ED! Its a lot more complex than first thought and would therefore take some serious untangling and negotiating with this situation.

{Ed002's Note - Yes Phil. The Work Permit situation for Italy is to be resolved with the Italian Government willing to give him a passport - but the British Government generally takes a dim view of passports of convenience. However, if he were to move to England the costs would be such that he would be eligible in any case. I am not aware of any recent West Ham links although there was a frenzy of activity around Christmas when folks were misled in to believing that he could be moving to West Ham on loan - that would of course not be possible with third party ownership. There is much untangling to do and a couple of further complexities have now popped up which people are not aware of. Firstly Calleri contract has been extended by one month from June 30 after permission was granted for him to play in the concluding stages of the Copa Libertadores (where I think he is the leading scorer) which run through July. The second point is that it has been suggested that if Sao Paulo were to win the Copa Libertadores then there may already be a commitment to extend the contract to the end of the year when a move to Europe would happen. Else, he will move to Europe later in this window. Right now talks are not happening as their season is not over as I say. The club who are committede to unravelling this mess are Fiorentina. Inter may perhaps return. Lazio, just possibly but my gut feeling (no more) is not. Spurs have moved on as I said. West Ham? I think it very unlikely.}

Thanks again Ed0002. Is Kia Joorabchin involved anywhere in this by any chance. I heard on the rumour mill that he was going to apply for an Italian passport so thanks for the clarity.

{Ed002's Note - No Phil, Kia is not involved with this matter but English football supporters will hear his name in relation to another player on the move this summer - but it doesn't involve West Ham.}

thank goodness for that. Whilst I'm here, can anyone shed any light on the "GORKAN TORE and ATiba Hutchinson" Situation because I hear we are also very interested in Matt Richie and Feghouli.

{Ed002's Note - From my perspective I need to make sure everyone is clear that these are not a package deal. In regards Hutchinson, Jensen says West Ham are dragging their heels after agreement was reached on everything except the structure of payments. He knows nothing of the Tore situation.

As for Tore the situation is as Mike explained - a price has yet to be agreed between the clubs.}

Wow, what a fiasco with Tore :-)

Hi ed what is Lyons asking price for him if it's not 40 mill euros.

{Ed002's Note - I would rather avoid discussing money as it causes a lot of confusion. People don't understand the additional costs and it really is a matter to be avoided.}

Ok no worries.
