Are we for real 16m for ayew! Sorry but that's a joke! Think we seriously are panicking now!

29 Jul 2016 19:56:55
Agree, don't really rate him, wasn't there also trouble at Marseille between him and Payet?

29 Jul 2016 22:42:09
Disagree totally he ran us ragged at upton park last season good player.

So at this stage in the season most of us are getting a bit anxious as we look a bit thin on the ground. The squad needs strengthening there's no doubt about it, it's going to be a tough season what with adapting to the new stadium and teams around us are starting to look stronger. Chelsea as we all know will be up there this time round and I think Stoke and Everton will definitely be stronger meaning a top 10 finish this time round is not a certainty especially if we manage to progress in Europa. As far as the squads concerned we have all been waiting for this 20 goal a season striker. Perhaps we aimed a bit high at the start of the summer and wasted a lot of time but I suppose you've got to give it a go and work your way down. The latest rumour is Andre Ayew someone I wanted last season. He's not that 20 goal a season striker I had in mind 2 months ago but I think he can do a job. If Valencia goes out and Ayew comes in that's surely an upgrade. Extremely versatile can play across all attacking positions and looked useful when converted from winger to striker in the second half of last season. Worked well playing with Payet at Marseille and has premier league experience. Andy Carroll's obviously there when we have to play a different style and is useful when chasing in the last 20 mins in games. Apparently Fletcher was ahead of Rashford at Man U but got injured and the rest is history. Who knows, from what I've seen the boy looks good! As for Callei if we can get this boy over the line I think this could be a real coup for the club! Chelsea, Spurs Inter Milan and most recently Barcelona have all been interested in him and he looks like his got all the skills to be a real star in the making. Yes he's only 22 but only a year younger than Kane and we know what he's been doing. He just needs to adapt to the Premier League and I'm sure he will. Improvements have been made behind the strikers most notably Fegouli who could be a real gem this season! Lanzini being out for a month is not the best news but with Payet, Tore, Antonio, Samuelson we will hopefully be able to cope. Song has left the defensive midfielder group and we have brought in Nordtveit who I think will become a valuable member to our team. Obiang looks to be staying so we should be OK here. When I arrive at the defence this is when I'm troubled! Cresswell out until Christmas with no real cover is a big issue and needs to be addressed! We have lost Tomkin's from the centre back positions and he regularly filled in at right back. We also looked a bit shaky at the back especially in the second half of the season and leaked a lot of goals. Ideally I would of loved to see a new top quality defender to partner Ogbonna or at least add some healthy competition and keep them all on their toes but I suppose being that Oxford and Burke look like potential future stars with all the big clubs sniffing around (especially in regards to Oxford) we would have to start thinking about integrating them into the team more and offer them more game time. The right back position baffles me! We brought in Byram who looks like a good young player but Bilic obviously doesn't think his ready yet. The idea he's got of trying to convert Antonio to a right back we can all see is ludicrous and were going to leak a lot of goals if he persists with this! I hope he's not stubborn and realises this mistake soon because this is another area I believe is an issue! I would go for an older experienced right back someone who is not going to stifle the development of Byram maybe someone around the age of 30 for a couple of years. For me an obvious candidate would be Corluka. 30 years old, Premier League experience can play right back/ centre back and worked with Bilic before with Croatia national team. So Calleri loan with option to buy needs to be signed and sealed, another striker in on top of that, a young up and coming left back who can fill in for 4 months and be under study to Cresswell and an experienced right back. I would say these 4 positions are essential!

Mexico to London to Brazil, are they really going to allow him to travel? if they do, sign him he is quite a mover.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the inclusion in the squad.
I am in my late 50's but can guarantee that I would have shown more energy and passion than they did last night, I can also pass the ball to a team mate rather than lump it aimlessly up field.

Morning all. As we all know, Leicester (respect to Leicester fans) we're not the best team in the premier league last season, but they won the title. A few reasons for this ie attacked with pace when they had the chance but most importantly they used less squad members than any other team. I believe they used 25 players but the back four was a constant. I'm not a Leicester fan but I can name them, Simpson, Huth, Morgan and Fuchs. They knew how each other played, where they played and where they should be and players were played in the right position. I lost count towards the end of the season of how many games they scraped 1-0. This has GOT TO Be our mindset this season. Its pointless buying a striker that will get us 20+ goals a season when we are conceding 3 or 4 goals a game (and the way we are currently being setup that's very likely) . ANTONIO IS NOT A RIGHT BACK AND BYRAM IS NOT A LEFT BACK! Reid was covering for Byram out of position, 2 or 3 midfielders going for the same ball and missing out. The list goes on and on! SB is a good manager and he knows what he is doing, however, he can only do what his tools allow him. AC up front on his own (back to allardyce days) tells defences all we intend to do is put crosses in. There are not going to be any defence splitting passes to worry about so they mark the only striker (Valencia is not a striker despite what his profile says) . There was no invention and this shmables could EASILY have lost by more. We SHOULD WIN the return leg BUT until this defence is sorted its going to be painful to watch every week. Look what Swansea did to us at home last season and again the defence was all over the place. My 8 year old's defence is more organised than this. Of course let's all remember that DGS have sold the 50,000 season tickets so they've got their money but let's see how they feel when we are struggling and near the bottom four.

{Ed001's Note - for starters they were the best team, which is why they won it, but they also did not have a constant back four. They just used the cover well for rest and suspensions. They sometimes had a centre back at full back or a winger at full back too. It was just that they only did it as a short term measure, rather than sticking with it because it worked once.}
