So Man Utd want Diop and are willing to pay £45m plus a player, question is which player?

Stevie66

{Ed004's Note - Youll know better than me. How good is he? Or whats his potential like. You can have any of our back line except De Gea, Lindelof and Shaw}

1.) 15 Jun 2019 17:28:07
No thanks, 04. We’ll keep him for now.

{Ed004's Note - I don't see him leaving West Ham this summer tbh. Hes about the 60th player we have been linked with so far}

2.) 15 Jun 2019 20:51:35
It is the season for silliness ed :)

3.) 17 Jun 2019 23:49:32
If Utd are set on signing him, they'll get him imo.

It's all a bit of a Rio Ferdinand flashback moment to be honest. Leeds wanted him and came up with a then record amount to sign him and *poof* he was gone.

We hasn't changed as a club that much in the last 19 years I'm afraid, so we'll always be vulnerable to losing our best young players to bigger teams, Issa Diop and Declan Rice are no exceptions - although I think Rice will stay for a couple more years at least, not sure Diop's got the same kind of connection with the club and may find it a bit easier to walk away - pure speculation on my part of course!

As for a swap? Nah it's alright thanks, I wouldn't want any of the Utd CB's but would be reasonably happy if £60M were to actually come our way for Diop. We could then move for someone like Maripan and have a large wedge left over to continue strengthening the squad.

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather Diop stays as he'll develop in to a CB as good as anyone, anywhere in any league but at the end of the day. money talks.

4.) 17 Jun 2019 23:36:58
I think the defender that we have asked for is ERIC BAILLY any thoughts ED. COYI.

{Ed004's Note - I am not sure what to think of Bailly anymore. Was brilliant in his first season and looked like he could go on to be a top cb. Really his only massive flaw was he was quite rash. However, hes been a disaster injury wise since and ridiculously inconsistent. His first game back vs Liverpool after a long injury he was immense and doing Zidane roulettes and then the next he was a disaster. There could be a potentially brilliant cb there but his mentality and reading of the game might restrict that. He is a phenomenal athlete. One of our quickest players. Dont think he will have been offered though. Would guess it was Rojo}

03 Jun 2019 13:55:05
Have we upped our bid for Gomes to £20m?

Stevie66

1.) 03 Jun 2019 19:55:40
So I’ve read, but apparently they’ve turned that down too.

2.) 03 Jun 2019 20:44:44
Apparently he wants Everton. Not happening.

3.) 04 Jun 2019 23:22:28
If it's true and BARCELONA want £25 million why are we faffing about offering 20 just give them what they want he's worth it all day long. COYI.

26 May 2019 07:14:14
I still keep reading that Marega is joining West Ham?

Stevie66

{Ed002's Note - The answer remains "perhaps" as there is a great deal of interest from elsewhere.}

1.) 26 May 2019 10:14:44
I really do think we should look at younger players from the championship Adams at Birmingham being one example the owners seem to be back to normal with the budget and all these foreign players seem to be way out of our league price wise until Sullivan and Gold go we will always be looking at old players free transfers,

2.) 26 May 2019 12:20:55
King68, again I agree mate, to be honest I am sick to death of hearing all this stupid talk about this one then that one, all foreign which is fine, but are they bounty hunters as they know we pay stupid wages, sign a nice fat 3 year contract, can get homesick or maybe the family may not settle, may have trouble communicating? Seems almost as if MP and Husillos aren’t interested in signing players already over here? I have absolutely no interest in speculation of foreign players👎👎⚒⚒⚒⚒.

3.) 26 May 2019 13:12:02
Completely agree with you I hate to say it but the spurs model of buying young hungary players from the championship and in Ali's case no dons is what we should be doing forget players who are 30 and over and look to the future ⚒⚒⚒.

4.) 26 May 2019 14:49:27
I don't know any Hungary players in the championship.

17 May 2019 14:43:08
I've read that West Ham are prepared to meet West Broms asking price for Rondon £16.5m?

Stevie66

1.) 17 May 2019 16:45:36
they are coming thick and fast now just see we are in for grealish to.

2.) 17 May 2019 16:50:07
I rate Rondon, would have liked to have seen us make a move for him when he went to Newcastle👍.

3.) 17 May 2019 17:14:27
who would you guys prefer, Rondon or Mitrovic, I also see Arsenal are in for Gomez?

4.) 17 May 2019 18:02:23
Apparently Mitrovic according to posters on here and Ed has an attitude problem, we don’t want another Arnie, so providing Rondon doesn’t have an attitude he would be my choice of the two!

5.) 17 May 2019 23:42:54
Saw rumour Carroll to get a new incentivised contract - I hope not and I doubt it. Shelvey keeps popping up, not really a fan. Marega, if we can’t get Gomez, yes please but won’t he want European football too? Etheridge - good safe pair of hands as backup to Fabianski.

6.) 18 May 2019 11:54:32
Rondon for me.

7.) 18 May 2019 17:08:56
Costahamner I don’t know you but do you really think we only need to swap you for Robson, if so let’s get it done :P.

8.) 18 May 2019 17:48:18
Rondon not Robson damn iOS.

9.) 19 May 2019 22:08:44
Not getting the love for Rondon in all honesty. He'll be 30 this year, never scored more than 14 goals in a season and he's only done that once. £16.5M is a lot to fork out for a player with no resale value who will score 7 or 8 goals a season, 10 if we're really lucky.

10.) 20 May 2019 12:36:09
Honestly, would rather get a cheap kid from south america rather than premiership proven has-beens.

15 May 2019 15:11:59
Seen reports that Marega is most likely to be sold to a prem club, and West Ham is his most likely destination?

Stevie66

1.) 15 May 2019 21:38:38
Gomez for me because of his age, but Marega is a very decent 2nd best.

2.) 16 May 2019 16:31:01
I really don't think Gomez will come to us bigger clubs will be in for him, Marega is a more realistic target.

3.) 17 May 2019 16:49:34
why not both, if we want to chalenge next years top 6.

4.) 17 May 2019 18:25:53
Have to agree with you we have spent 2 much time in past on strikers Lacazette batsuyi spelling. only to find we have been wasting our time. arnie will stay unless silly offer comes in. carroll n Perez will go Chico has a yr left on his contract on a decent wage and we want to recoup part of the 16 mill we paid out for him. and possibly promote one of the youngsters to 4th choice the big decision will be with which youngsters MP promotes. With the likes off holland Johnson and others looking to break into the squad. in regards to trot goalie he may go out on loan for the season and we will bring in cover for 12 months.

5.) 18 May 2019 09:34:04
Remember all . its not who the club want its . who they can attract . two very different things.

6.) 18 May 2019 14:32:38
Exactly so we will be competing against wolves Everton Leicester for similar players anyone beeing chased by a top 6 we will struggle to sign.

7.) 18 May 2019 16:13:21
There’s always an issue with competing v the top six for players.

Our best arguments are that we are targeting Europe and that the incoming player would be an automatic first team pick if he stayed fit and on form.

8.) 18 May 2019 19:11:06
Exactly but I get the impression that these days ( please input Ed's) that it's more about talking the agent round first then let him / her talk the player into it, I know that's a bit of a short line and leaves lots out ( player ambition just to start with ) but football is a business first and a spectator sport second . wow what have I put in my tea?

{Ed002's Note - Jason you are largely correct - the transfer process is based on the club and the agent working together.}

I see Man Utd are interested in Rice as well, how many more players do they want from us, we don't want to become a feeder club, if we can keep hold of our best young players and add to the squad then we have a hell of a chance of doing something next season.

Stevie66

18 Jun 2019 05:09:43
I've heard that Man Utd are not prepared to give us the player we want (for Diop) so who is that player?

Stevie66

1.) 18 Jun 2019 07:45:17
I've just found out its Martial?

2.) 18 Jun 2019 11:15:22
That’s way beyond keeping up with the Jones’s! 😉.

16 Jun 2019 07:15:19
Morning all, we can see that MP is trying to build a young exciting team so he surely won't want to sell Diop, BUT if an offer of £60m+ came in what should he do, could he go for Maripan, so what would you all do if a big offer did come in, personally I'd want him to stay, but what do you think?

Stevie66

1.) 16 Jun 2019 07:39:43
I agree. I really hope he stays. Good quality young players is what we want. But if he wants to go then best to let him go! We don’t want another Payet situation.
Their defence is a disaster and we don’t want any their dross!
How much say does the player himself have?

2.) 16 Jun 2019 08:01:20
I’d say no ref. Diop, but offer Balbuena.

3.) 16 Jun 2019 08:45:03
Stevie I'm with you the so called big 6 have got to learn that a contract is a contract and that they can't just buy their way into a Champions league place

I've often thought that a big percentage of a teams squad should come from the academy but then if that was the case we probably wouldn't have Diop iin rhe first place.

4.) 16 Jun 2019 08:45:20
I think the club would sanction a £60m transfer and trust in MP&H to find a decent replacement. At times we forget that football clubs are businesses and that includes player turnover for profit to reinforce the team with more appreciating assets.

It really does seem that the new recruitment team is concentrating on young, classy players now. It wasn’t that long ago that we would all wonder which over the hill name Sully we go for every window. Thank heavens our transfer policy has changed!

So, with a bit of regret, my answer is, yes, we would let Diop go, if the price is right.

{Ed004's Note - Would he be worth 60 million from Utd perspective? We need a dominant cb who is comfortable playing the left cb role to play alongside Lindelof}

5.) 16 Jun 2019 09:07:02
04 - the special one called him a monster. Nuff said.

{Ed004's Note - Fair enough. Is he any good on the ball? Seems quite quick}

6.) 16 Jun 2019 09:29:41
Whilst he will, of course, improve with experience, I can see no weaknesses in his game. Check his stats.

However, even though there is always a price at which a deal might be done, WH will do their utmost to hang on to him.

“Agents have been testing our resolve to hold onto him through Director of Football Mario Husillos and this morning via an e mail a top Hammers insider made the club’s position as clear as it gets to ClaretandHugh.

He said: “It’s very simple – he is going nowhere. He is a major part of the team and at his age is set to become an integral part of things at West Ham. ”.

{Ed004's Note - I still maintain my stance that I think he will stay just trying to keep optimistic that we wont spend stupid money on an overrated Maguire tbh. Thanks for your feedback}

7.) 16 Jun 2019 09:51:55
Great posts chaps, the reason we don’t like getting players in their 30s is because they will have no resale value, now we have a player early 20s teams will be interested and as Markro said football is a business and there is a chance to make a massive profit but on the other hand we don’t want to keep making the top teams stronger, after all we are trying to catch them up, I hope we now have the financial clout to keep hold of these players and make them realise that we want to break into the top 6 and start challenging for Europe and trophies.

8.) 17 Jun 2019 23:41:28
For me there ain't a lot between BALBUENA AND DIOP the one thing DIOP has is his pace . COYI.

14 Jun 2019 17:05:50
Why are we being linked with the Barcelona goalkeeper, especially as we've just signed two, I don't get it, that's one position I'm happy with.

Stevie66

1.) 14 Jun 2019 18:04:28
I think you concede fewer goals with four keepers.

2.) 15 Jun 2019 00:01:14
Lol true markro.

13 Jun 2019 11:36:22
First game Man City at home, firstly it's nice to start the season at home secondly it could be a good time to play them before they get into some sort of rytham?

More signings like this please, and I can see us doing a Leicester, now wouldn’t that be nice 👍.

Stevie66

{Ed002's Note - This will work out very well I hope.}

Might not be a replacement for Rice as I can see Sanchez and Obiang leaving and with Noble not get any younger we could be looking to bring in a couple of midfielders at least, Lobotka and Jordan in, Sanchez and Obiang out, maybe?

Stevie66

{Ed002's Note - He plays in the same position as Rice.}

Was it this keeper that made a balls up against Brighton in the FA cup, then our scouts must've said " he's the one for us", lol.

Am I right in saying that this keeper wasn't even 1st choice at Espanyol, he only played the cup games?

{Ed002's Note - Right.}
