So according to rumours we are possibly looking to sell some of our best young players. For many years now we have been a selling club. We have been told by the Chairman that this new West Ham are going to compete with the top teams in the Premiership. That is why we had to move to a much bigger stadium, that was the main reason for the stadium move. So it now sounds ridiculous that we may be off loading our best young players, is as expected the ground move sheer greed for more money from a 60,000 capacity? If we believe the Chairman and he is true to his word then we will not be selling our best young players. And by the way Rise was magnificent again last night, why the delay in his new contract?

Quina refused a new contract, and spent his time agitating and moaning, OK what other players do we intend to sell ? please remember it is all a matter of judgement, not many youngsters make the eventual grade and WH would be among the first to recognise talent within instead of spending huge sums buying talent in anybody worth there salt will get a chance, don’t forget WH have picked up a few youngsters that were not wanted elsewhere! IRONMIKE.

2.) 28 Dec 2018 14:06:00
Any news on the Rice situation Mike?

3.) 28 Dec 2018 17:04:05
He's signed Warrington untill 2024 get in.

4.) 28 Dec 2018 17:16:46
YES he has, I said it would get sorted he’s an automatic pick, How on earth could WH let him go. IRONMIKE.

18 Dec 2018 17:08:36
Well here we have it, Jack Wheelchair possibly out for the rest of the season according to reports. So we must be a very rich club to pay him such high wages over 3 years for what return.? So we still can't offer Rice a decent wage to get him to sign a long term contract, wonder what our priorities are, looking at a great young player to star for this club for many years OR paying disability Millions to a wheelchair case. Give me strength.

Hammer Man, I think you trying to get me going again😂🤣 Other posters on here are probably sick of my anti posts on JW, but I rise to the bait each time his name is printed on here🤣For the life of me I will never understand why we gave a 3 year deal for a well documented crock, should any fan with a modicum of football knowledge not predict this would happen, of course he was talented x years ago, but his injury problems have made him a long gone spent force! We don’t need him anyway thankfully!

2.) 18 Dec 2018 19:00:12
I agree he is a talented player, but his history of being injured while at the gooners spoke for itself. When I heard he was being released by them I knew only one club would pay him a huge wage and sign him, unfortunately I was right. Not only sign him but give him 3 years! I for one could not see that we needed him, we have a strong mid-field and there were more younger reliable players on the market. Our board seem to have a rush of blood and make some stupid signings.

3.) 18 Dec 2018 22:18:20
It’s like buying a Ferrari that you know has been written off twice and hoping it holds together.

4.) 19 Dec 2018 00:05:46
I'm not being argumentative but how did he pass his stringent medical that's more to the point. COYI.

5.) 19 Dec 2018 13:40:39
Didnt Ironmike send out a post ages ago when we signed him. I thought his basic wage was very small, but with his appearance fee would be on more than he was at Arsenal.
I was understanding that the board will never do another AC and therefore we are only pay a small wage to JW when he's injured. IRONMIKE need your input on this one.

6.) 19 Dec 2018 15:12:21
Cheezy, yes you’re right about small wage and appearance money to be even higher earnings when playing than at Arsenal, but what is the definition of a small wage in the Premiership? My idea of a small wage would be £5k a week when you have JW’s massive injury record! But I think we should have not bothered him at all!

7.) 19 Dec 2018 19:31:19
Regardless of what the smaller wage may be it is still good money being wasted on a player that is not giving anything in return. Are we a charity, small wages over 3 years still mounts up to a fair sum. yet another very bad signing.

8.) 20 Dec 2018 20:56:42
So it looks like wheelchair is on a reduction in weekly wages due to him being injured ( again ) . Apparently he is paid £80k a week and the poor boy is only being paid £40k for absolutely nothing. Plus the medical assistance that he receives for free from the club, that's about another £5k a week with the medical guys wages. Who decided on buying him must be bonkers. but then again this is West Ham United.

03 Dec 2018 11:28:02
Well here I go again, banging on about the boy Rice. Another fine display at Newcastle on Saturday and all over the press about him this morning. I still can't believe this boy has not been sorted out with a long term contract. The big clubs are circling more and more after every game. Are our Chairmen that naïve that a bid won't be long coming in from one of the top 6 clubs. If we don't get his contract sorted then he will be gone. I hate to think how the supporters will react should he leave. Could it be Burnley all over again?

I agree that something is not right with the Rice situation. When a young player shows his ability any club would jump at the chance of tying him down to a long contract. To not progress with negotiations tells me that there is more to this situation than meets the eye. Any top club would have done the business by now so the question has to be asked why? What could his fee be now? But in 3 years time it could be sky high if he progresses as he is. I remember we had Michael Carrick who looked a world beater, but we lost him, we can't lose Rice in the same way.

Hammer Man

1.) 28 Nov 2018 13:09:44
Hi Hammer

I think the Carrick situation was slightly different as I think we were relegated, and not only did we need to sell off he would have been difficult to keep hold of him, but get your point

The more I think about if the more i'm convinced something has happened and this is not just straight negotiation talks, Sullivan is no fool when it comes to money and knowing his potential and value in the years to come, for the relative pittance Rice is after in football terms wages you would have thought this would have been put to bed months ago.

Dont suppose you heard anything new Ironmike?

2.) 28 Nov 2018 14:50:51
Could it be the new contract structure that the club want to implement is the issue?

3.) 28 Nov 2018 15:16:02
Maybe Jason

But it a pretty hard stance to take, . basically Sullivan is saying take what we offer or not. Rice says no and leaves on a free losing a possible £30m. Sullivan not stupid something else is going on that's the only reason for this in my view.

26 Nov 2018 13:16:30
Why are our money men not giving Rice a new contract, can't they see this boys potential. Give him £80k a week and he is going to be that good bring back the number 6 shirt and give it to him. Bobby Moore would be pleased to see someone with such qualities wear his shirt.

1.) 26 Nov 2018 14:41:57
Hammer Man, this has to be the most discussed subgest on this site? I cannot believe behind the scenes this must have been sorted one way or another? Rice could easily have said to the board, “up yours, I’m off” and the club are keeping it quiet, although I don’t believe that could happen without the press or someone leaking that story, or it has all been favourably sorted out for him to stay. Either way, Rice will be the winner and rightly so. there can only be one loser here and that’s our club and its fans! I hesitate to think what the fans reactions will be if another London club come in for him and he goes and who could blame him when we have the likes of Hernandez, Carroll, Wiltshire, who have made as good as no contribution to the club at all, drawing astronomical wages, it would give me the right efffing hump as it would most people!

2.) 26 Nov 2018 17:13:40
The main interest in Rice at the moment is from Man United, they may try a bid. Soon. IRONMIKE.

3.) 26 Nov 2018 21:30:34
Are our owners deliberately trying to test Rice's resolve and commitment to the club? It would be easy for a player's head to be turned by Man Utd.

{Ed002's Note - Why the sudden blame culture.}

4.) 27 Nov 2018 10:54:40
Having been Rice's biggest fan for the last 2 years I would hate to lose him can see him being another Michael Carrick and we all know what happened their

If anyone at the club reads this page I think you all should ask yourselves "why haven't we locked down a new contract" come on guys wise up.

Ambition is a great thing, but we must not fall into the trap that Burnley did this season and qualify for the second rate European competition. Look what a disaster for them and the many clubs that preceded them over the years. That competition is a poison chalice and we must steer clear of it. A Premier league season wrecker in my opinion.

So what can the problem be by not getting Rice on a long term contract. Its about time we were told the truth, or is it just our board being stubborn. It can't be that the club can't afford it as we are paying squad players drastically over the odds.

The paramount thing that WH should do is get Rice on a new contract NOW. paying above average wages to has beens does not give a good impression to Rice, he must wonder what is going on around him. If we lose Rice it would be devastating to the supporters.

I agree that we were crap yesterday. With exception of Fabianski and rice ( who I thought looked tired and frustrated in the last 20 minutes ) . Our team selection and tactics were all wrong, Arnie should never put on a West Ham shirt again, a total disgrace. I hate to see players cheat and not give effort, but this lot yesterday just took the piss out of the loyal support they have got this season.

I agree regarding Hernandez, all forwards need regular game time. When we give him the match fitness he scores goals and any defender will tell you the worst player in the penalty area is one with the speed and close ball control that he has. His record speaks for itself, all his goals are scored within the penalty box. As for Masuaku, I am afraid I think he is a liability, his defending is rubbish and all teams try and expose him, and that is not difficult. When he plays as a wing back he makes a few good runs but for me not consistent enough, get rid. Arnie must go, he is sulking and a bad egg. Perez and Carroll are all but gone. can't keep Adrian, he needs game time and deserves to be let go for his loyalty.

I thought Rice was outstanding last night. His vision to break up play is just fantastic. He reads the game so well and his tackling is so crisp and efficient. I agree that Cairney would be a good asset to the team, thought we should have got him last summer as he is class. Mitrovic is powerful and very much a handful, but for me he does not score enough and we need a out and out goal scorer.

I have not any suggestions to be honest, all I would ask for is a player or players who would not be on the treatment table week after week.

Talk about out of the frying pan into the fire. both would be a disaster for West Ham.
