Mike / Ed

Do you know what the situation is with Andy Carroll?

His contract is up at the end of the season and although I read AC said that he is playing for a new contract, due to the amount of games his not been available over the 4/ 5 years or so I would imagine his got as much chance of getting a new contract as Theresa May being hailed by Parliament as the best negotiator since slice bread

With Arnie and possibly Hernandez on there way it does leave us very light up top, but the question is do we let Carroll go on a free or do we try and get what ever we can for him to recoup what we can.

The DGs could offer him a very small basic and a pay as you play offer, but I doubt if AC would accept this as he will be a free agent and some silly team will offer him a decent signing on fee as well as wages.

Just wondered if any news on DG opinion on this.

{Ed002's Note - If WH could strike a deal for a new contract based on availability plus a smaller basic it might suit everyone.}

Thanks Ed

But even a smaller basic has to surely be in the region of £20k a week than maybe £70k every time he plays or available to play.

There is no doubt if he would have stayed fit he would have been offered a new contract ages ago, but the fact is he never is fit for a length of time

Even if we did offer him a smaller basic, he knows the fact come the summer he can get a hefty signing on fee plus a basic with another club.

I would have thought this conversation may have taken place as asking Carroll would he take a small basic and pay as you play so to speak, if it has not taken place to see what his thoughts are if WH wanted to go down that route than he has to be sold to get as much back as possible as the Jan window is nearly over.

Thank you for your reply Ed.

No deal, i don't think he fits MP style of play. Not technically good enough with the ball on the floor.
Look at the strikers we are linked with, all have great technical ability with the ball on the floor, and then have a second attribute of either being strong in the air (Gomez) or pace (Piatek, Martinez, Werner)
Carroll's WHU days are over either now, or when his contract ends in summer.

I think Carroll gives us something different and to be fair has turned games in our favour. I wouldn’t be averse to him getting a pay for play contract. on another matter Boyata from Celtic is out of contract in the Summer, does anyone think he would be useful cover whist Balbuena is out?
