Hi all. In a behind the scenes meeting the agent of Rice has asked for exactly the terms I posted yesterday 30k a week flat for three years then rising to 35k a week next three years six year deal All the add ons to be discussed when that's agreed player wants to stay at WH very happy there FRANKLY I personally cannot see any reason why WH cannot agree to that it's simple and easy, the boy trains hard and lives a clean life what more can you ask? He's not Oxford that's been proved beyond any questions And looks like a future captain he has all the hallmarks of it No enquiries has been received as yet WH though might need a couple of enquiries to get real. IRONMIKE.

That all seems reasonable to me Mike, and without doubt he will be a future captain.

Those figures seem reasonable, so can’t see why Sullivan won’t get the deal done.

Hi all, just read on sky sports evening papers that Declan rice has turned down a contract worth 20k every time he plays dunno how much truth is in it as it is the papers and sky. But I really hope it’s not true, the board need to make a statement and nail this kids contract down because quite simply, he is the future and he is class. Can you shed any light mike please?

Yes his agent turned down two different offers , and stated what hiis client wants. As above, that’s it at present. IRONMIKE.

I think agents are a PITA. While I don’t disagree with you Mike, I do think if a base plus bonuses which are purely around appearances gives him almost equivalent to what he wants in base he should back himself. If all goes well he will get the money and all happy. If he doesn’t continue we don’t want another young player in the 23s on 35k a week. As fans we always think just pay the money but the club has to think about what if he doesn’t stay in the team. The fact is Rice will leave one day unless as a club we move forward so I don’t think paying what his agent asks versus a structured deal will make that difference.

Sdl, if all or most other players are in the same type of deal, smaller base salary, then bonus of £20k or whatever for every appearance, then fine, but are they, would Reid, Carroll and whoever else has the possibility of stringing out
an injury on the the sick bench not try too hard about fitness, not to difficult to feign some delayed recovery! That is s perfectly good reason to have a smaller base, then appearance increments, but make it a level playing field? It can cause unrest amongst players when such a disparity in earnings! I often wondered why Sakho didn’t play often enough when he was clearly capable of scoring goals, he then accused the management that it was because they didn’t want to pay him bonus appearances? What the truth was I don’t know? But I also remember Ed backing his story by quoting that “ a lot of under 23 players were on more than his £25k per week wage” so he was entitled to have the hump!

Chelmsford I don’t disagree with what you are saying but he is 19 not 29. Yes if others in the 23s are paid more he will feel a bit agrieved but because we have made mistakes doesn’t mean we need to keep making them. It’s sll in how it’s delivered and 20k per week plus 10k appearance money plus say a 5k increase after 15 matches plus some guaranteed increase if he stays after another season or two could work out better for him but still protect the club if it doesn’t work out. How many times have we supporters moaned about the wages being paid to players who don’t play?

Wouldnt flat salaries make things soooooo much easier, just make players earn their top $$$ via performance incentives. Completely unrealistic though as it is impossible to change. I think all of us fans agree what the players earn is ludicrous, but the money is there in football to justify it. I hate what agents do to football whilst making crazy money at the same time. They bring no benefit IMO, all that money could go to so many better things.
Rice, get him signed on, 30k is a reasonable base if we want him to pen a long 6 year contract that guarantees we get a good fee for him if he reaches the heights we all hope he will in the next 2 years. If WHU wanted 4 years (2 year extension) then i could understand 20k and incentives. This being said, were i Rice, i would pen a 20k with incentives deal providing the base salary goes up after each time I reach certain number of appearances. If he performs well then the club will certainly negotiate a new deal when there are 2-3 years left on it, which is not long away.

Sdl, your last paragraph about “ players not playing being paid etc. was the point I am making about a level playing field for all! Appreciate Sdl very difficult, players milking lucrative contracts, have we not taken a bigger gamble on Wilshere which I think is s bad joke! But if other clubs come in, especially a London club with a massive hike in basic salary, we can safely assume that he will at least seriously consider it no matter how much “ he loves the club” bearing in mind Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, are seriously more successful clubs than our 'also rans'.

That is my realistic view! If they really wanted shot of Oxford, I believe they had offers but decided to decline, will we sit on the fence when this happens with other young outstanding talent! If I remember Joe Cole was offered an unprecedented contract at the age of 16/17, but of course DGS were more into the early days of porn😂😂⚒⚒⚒.

Story in papers he's rejected 40k, this is why I started this post by asking Mike. can't believe a word in them.

Under 23 players on 25,000 a week I’m sorry but that’s one story I don’t believe till I’ve read facts.
