I'm no architect so wouldn't know how to do it but COULD the London stadium be redeveloped to be a football ground? Or would it need a complete rebuild?

I'm hoping it can be done as uk athletics are considering moving to a purpose built stadium in Birmingham therefore leaving us to maybe redevelop the London stadium, watch this space, (but we do need a team to play in it first) .

Phil parks was saying that West Ham should've built a proper football stadium on land between the A13 and A25 which would've had enough space for shopping complex, hotels etc, he could be right, but David Sullivan Jr. has said it is still possible that his dad could buy the stadium outright, (believe it when I see it) and Frank Mcavennie has said they should sell the club and leave the stadium for a purpose built one elsewhere, so there's a few that are not happy with the stadium situation at the moment but your guess is as good as mine as to what will happen.

I remember a feed ago that the old West Ham post office site was touted as a possible new ground site but it never happend . Who could finance a new ground? What they cost? 300m more less?

They was going to buy the Olympic stadium at first with the help of Newham council before Herne and Levy put a stop to it so they must be able to finance it.

I heard they WAS looking at the land where the lakeside hammers race near the shopping centre.
We need a ground just for US not to share with athletics or concerts or for anything else, upton park was our home and its just not the same we need a new place to call home to look to the future.

I do believe that we will sell the club within 3-5 years and hopefully to a billionaire who could take us to next level like citeh, we do need a home, Upton park was a special place and it'll take time to ever replace that were ever we end up.

Regards the stadium, it would easy to convert into a football couldren!

The roof is in place, and with the running track gone, it would just be a matter of re-profiling the stands to a steeper angle.

Everyone would be closer to the pitch, and the atmosphere would crank up a few gears.

Add a few more bars, and a smoking terrace, and it would be the best in Europe!

With the biggest screen in Europe!

It would be an impressive stadium and it needs to be done but we have to buy it outright and make it our home if that's the plane.

It's actually much harder than that.

The roof only extends to cover the current stand positions in 'football mode' so wouldn't be suitable if the stands were nearer the pitch.

The angle of the lower stands is shallow already so changing the rake if brought forward (and with the roof sorted) would make them more shallow not steeper. The rear stands are fixed so would need totally demolishing to re-angle.

The current ground will never be a football only stadium as if purpose built. Sad but true.

Shame really because if we do want to grow then a bigger stadium is needed . I know a lot of people have said there piece in the move and Miss UP and want to go back ( if still there ) but don't forget that 20000 more West Ham fans can now see there team play! They have a voice too and should be allowed to voice it . Personally I would like a proper football designed ground but in the meantime I will enjoy going and supporting home and away :) now then let's beat hfield and kick on:) :) :)

Its awesome that more fans come to watch but its not OUR home and never will be, if we moved to our own purpose built stadium which was made to be intimidating and feel like home like upton park then none of us would have a problem, this is all a cash train for the davids before they sell and they have sold our club and history down the river, i'm a season ticket holder and will support the team whoever plays and will continue to do so but this is not my west ham as I knew it.

if we were to buy the ground we could copy Barcelona and have the pitch below ground level. That way we could create a whole now lower tier and all tiers/ rows would be on the same angle or rake from top to bottom. I imagine it would be bloody expensive to do and the back rows would be further from the pitch, but would surely be cheaper than starting again somewhere else?!

Could even copy Barcelona with the stadium name. the Newham Camp?!?!

I agree Joe the only way to improve the stadium would be to lower the pitch but then there's also the matter of the roof. Massive project!
