IronMike - it seems to have now gotten through what Sporting told me yesterday. They have a price for the player and West Ham don't wish to pay it so there is no deal. Sporting were in Monaco all day yesterday attending a meeting of a number of sides, they then had side meetings over potential transfers with a couple of sides before attending the draw last night. Unlike many of the sides, they stayed over this morning to meet with agents and clubs who arrived for the draw held this afternoon.

Why would the club, knowing the players value from the very outset, try and low ball Sporting and pull out the deal 6 days before the window ends? It's Bacca all over again. Spin.

So they identify a area where they believe we need strengthing. Target a quality player haggle haggle haggle then bottle it over a few million. Surely if you were willing to put so much into getting him you must be pretty sure this is the man you want. I'm aware it's a lot of money but it is for a reason seems they would rather shop for a bargain and hope to get lucky. Probably end up with crap rather than actually put their money where there mouth is and by players who could seriously improve us in there positions. If we got him I think many teams would wonder how we got him much like Hernandez. Really starting to question why the owners do this I don't want to sound paranoid but it does almost seem like they do it for the publicity and hype. An ultimatum at this stage is pointless basically laying down a gauntlet and asking teams to jump infront and get it done. Clowns!

Some saying it can be seen as a positive in that rice will play more if he doesn't come well how about if he does it means rice can play in his preferred position and strengthen us at the back where we have looked seriously poor.
