West Ham are determined to put up a fight for Leeds United's Sam Byram and have put in an offer, according to the Daily Express.

In the last 24 hours, a bid had been accepted by Leeds United from Everton and Byram looked set to be joining the Toffees.

However, The Hammers have made a last ditch attempt to sway the transfer their way by offering cash and TWO unnamed players in return for the youngster (how much truth there is in this am not sure) .

The versatile 22-year-old has been on the transfer radar ever since he rejected a new deal at Elland Road and Chairman Massimo Cellino wants to cash in rather than risking a tribunal.

Despite West Ham's intriguing offer, Everton Manager Roberto Martinez may have the upper hand in this bidding war due to his experience developing young talent.

Nonetheless, The Hammers are willing to offer Byram a starting position which they are hoping will entice the right winger/ defender to join the club.

Villa and Liverpool have also been credited with interest in the Academy graduate.

Although a bid seems to have been accepted by Leeds United, the new offer may put the brakes on to allow the club to reconsider all their options, especially with players as additional incentive

A starting bid of £3 million looks set to increase for Byram after the upsurge in interest.

Do you think this could be O'Brien and Jelavic?

If we let Jelavic and obrien go would it free up enough funds (wages) for Zaza and Byram?

its more likely to be zarate that goes I would think o'brien is injured with 6 monthes left on his contract can't see anyone wanting to touch that and with carroll and sakho injured we kinda need jelavic at the moment with moses and payet coming back I think zarate is probably the expendable one if anyone does

im guessing phil zaza would be on more wages than o'brien and jelavic combined not 100% sure but just guess.

You'd be surprised to know that Jelavic and O'Brien are probs on as much as Zaza if not more, outside the top players, wages in Europe are not high.

2 million euros is only about 27-30 grand a week RedRobbo, it's decent in European terms, that's why they can let fans in these countries have cheap season tickets too compared to ours, the money in our game and players wages are fantasy stuff.
