We are looking to strengthen the team, there is a reason why no other prem club is in for him! Let's just trade Nolan, Jarvis and even loan out Noble if we have to, and let's get Austin in! Let's not forget that Zarate looks sharper this year and can do a job just behind Sakho.

I agree with you, with every target slipping away Hernandez staying, Borini to Sunderland, let's give Austin the confidence and see him bloom in the Hammers shirt

Here is a thought. Why don't we offer QPR a loan deal for Charlie Austin?

The last time they were relegated they allowed Loic Remy to join Newcastle on loan for the season.

We could input an option to buy for £15 million next Summer which would give QPR the cash they want for him but allow us to prepare for that outgoing amount.

Also, it would give us the chance to see if Austin can replicate the form he had for QPR last season in the Premier League.

As it looks like fan power got rid of the Barton deal let's see if we can do the same with Austin. DAVID GOLD /SULLIVAN PLEASE GO AND GET AUSTIN!!

I think we need to be careful we don't give too much up, not that I think that will happen as suggested. Noble bleeds claret and blue and while not a star will give his all for the cause. Jarvis, while he cost too much, is a reasonable backup. Nolan was helpful and did a good job for us but is not what he was and won't add a lot. The problem is his contract assures him good pay for the season so even if we loaned him we would need to supplement his wages most likely. Wheeling and dealing on the market isn't as easy as some seem to believe.

I like Austin, he is a very good player. However, if we look to the future what happens if Carroll and Valencia are both fit to play. Where does the formation include Austin, he certainly isn't a bench warmer.
I agree with DIE_4_WHU comments, perhaps loan deal would be much better suited.
However with the way Zarate/Payet and Sakho are linking up. The possible inclusion with Obaing and Carroll to return (allegedly End of August/Beginng of September) I cannot see a place for Austin in the squad.
Plus we forget about lillle old Lanzini we have on the bench and (I begrudge this) Maiga!

Carroll is only ever going to be fit for 6 games at a time, he cannot be relied upon to complete half a season. It's time to give up on him and look to the future!
